Guessing here, but... Dan Ackroyd? (I remember that he played Joe Friday, but I can't think of who the second cop might be.)

I was thinking Colin Farrell, who played Sonny Crockett. Can't think of second cop for him.

Farrell can't be who he's thinking of... because Sam Jackson-- playing the "SWAT" lead and John Shaft-- would be at least his equivalent there.

Technically not cops as cops considered and they are real life figures, but Kevin Costner as Elliot Ness (who had been portrayed on TV) and Wyatt Earp (don't know offhand but I'm sure had to have been iconically portrayed before the two flicks in the late 80s and early 90s).

One of them is actually gettable. The other is too weirdly obscure, but I just happen to be reading her bio of her father, and she's credited in the author page with being a harpist, poet, and scholar of classical Greek poetry.
