... then it will eventually become fodder for a cool-beans slideshow of great unbuilt stadiumsby Slate. The West Side Stadium and O'Malley's doomed Buckminster Fuller dome are included right up front (along with a cool floating Seattle stadium-that-wasn't and an oddly-compelling Tampa pirate thingy).

The team that plays there (in the CFL) is the Edmonton Eskimos. I want it to look like an igloo.

I was disappointed that the plan for Edmonton didn't mean that football could be played on the suspended field simultaneously with the hockey game going on below.

Not as disappointing as this not happening -- the head-on view of the stadium @2:00, amazing.

I'm a little surprised they didn't include the Mets plan with the roll-out field. Thank goodness that didn't happen!

Ah, yes Ebbets Dome 2 -- it's a pity because that would have bankrupted the Wilpons for sure.

Shitty looking scoreboard and the outfield looks even bigger than Citi (assuming scale). The bullpen at deep centre left may be over 400ft.

Looks like a lot of elements lived on from that.

It's amazing that the White Sox live with the last stadium built before the Camden Yards revolution, knowing that they rejected a park that was a blueprint for Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

I remember reading that Ebbets Dome 2 was also used as the basis for Miller Park, although the latter has a distinctively different roof. Retro ballparks are the cookie-cutters of the 21st Century.

Speaking of Camden Yards, this is the design they didn't go with;

The National Stadium , forever known as the Bertie Bowl in Ireland

Bertie Ahern has said recently quite unbelievably that not getting this built during his time as Taoiseach of Ireland was his biggest regret , yes he said that, not the economy or all the people that left, no , a fucking ugly stadium.
