I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU WOULD DISRESPECT THE NEW YORK SPORTIMES LIKE THIS! YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!
|
Chad Ochoseis Mar 10 2011 10:00 AM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |
The Red Bulls play their home games in Harrison, NJ (motto: "Congratulations! You're no longer in Newark!!!), so they're no more New York than the Jets or Giants.

I tweeted this yesterday and today I get a reply from @manhattanmini: "But is it funny? Even a teeny bit?"

Time to unfollow (or whatever you tweeters call it) manhattanmini.

I imagine in this buzzy and linky world, topical humor can be demonstrated to trump funny humor. This morning, thousands and thousands of folks are talking about Manhattan Mini Storage.

yeah, that's their thing. (I don't follow them, i just mentioned the company in my tweet and they noticed) I like their ads, they're sorta funny. different at least. controversial for sure. usually more political "People are openly gay and secretly republican, why leave?" or "storing at your parents means having to visit"

C'mon. It is funny. At least a little bit.

Jesus Christ, G, you sound just like Willie.
|
Gwreck Mar 10 2011 11:02 AM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |
Truth: I had actually forgotten about that Willie quote. But there is something to the concept of telling everyone to 'shove it' when success (eventally? finally?) comes your way.

The Coliseum is only 5.83 miles from the Queens border? Seems further.

Wait, I thought the Nets & Devils played in the Meadowlands next to the Giants & Jets. Is there really 1.5 miles of parking lot between the two buildings?
|
metsmarathon Mar 10 2011 03:00 PM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |
they used to be a quarter mile closer, in the izod center. they're currently both now in newark's prudential center.

New Jersey Mets?
|
Gwreck Mar 10 2011 03:22 PM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |

The Easternmost point in NYC is at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Langdale Street in Glen Oaks, Queens. From there, it's 6.1 miles (as the crow files) but over 10 miles by the fastest driving route.

Chad Ochoseis Mar 10 2011 03:23 PM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |

Weird, because the PATH stop for Harrison comes before the PATH stop for Newark if you're traveling from NYC.
|
G-Fafif Mar 10 2011 03:24 PM Re: 6 pro teams in NY...and the Mets |
Perhaps what the company in question meant is the Mets aren't a "professional" sports team in the sense that they have been revealed to be a non-profit operation.
