TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record

Got this question in an e-mail today, and, condescending prick that I am, I spun a little SQL and retrieved the answer from the UMDB. My own personal guess to the answer was well off the mark. If you want to play this game, post your guesses below. I'll probably be too busy today to run this as a classic guessing game with hints and stuff, at least for a while. But I'll be sure to post the answer, along with a healthy list of runners up, later this afternoon.

Benitez/Leiter

Edgy DC Mar 10 2011 07:43 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Benitez/Leiter is a pretty good guess. Taken as it is, I'll go with, um, Gooden/Orosco.

Franco/Reed?

Didn't we have a thread on this question before? I like Jones/Franco, myself.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 10 2011 08:06 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Jones Franco would be my guess as well.

Seaver/McGraw?

I'll be back as soon as I find the answer on the web.

My incorrect guess was Leiter/Franco.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 10 2011 08:30 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Franco has so many more saves than the next guy, he ought to be part of the right answer. But the starters during his tenure were less stable.

For a change of pace, Darling - Orosco.
|
The Second Spitter Mar 10 2011 08:34 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Reed had the most wins out of any starter in the Franco era.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Mar 10 2011 09:12 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
I'll go Darling-McDowell for the hell of it. But Leiter-Benitez smells like a winner.

Valadius Mar 10 2011 12:22 PM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Leiter/Benitez is my guess.

And our winner is... metsmarathon for being the first to guess Bobby Jones and John Franco.

Clark had 22 wins, 10 saved by Franco (45.45%).

Did Benitez not save any games for Bobby Jones?
|
G-Fafif Mar 10 2011 01:32 PM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Bobby Jones could have wandered in here, and John Franco could have followed him in eight innings later, and I doubt I would have come up with them.

I coulda sworn it was the dynamic duo of Matt Ginter and Orber Moreno.

Here's the full freakin' list. Please have it memorized by Tuesday.

HAH! Lee Guetterman.
|
MFS62 Mar 10 2011 09:49 PM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
I had a suspicion that Koosman/ Lockwood would be on the list. But I never expected to see their total tied with Zachry/ Lockwood.

seawolf17 Mar 11 2011 07:36 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Funny. Santana/Pelfrey isn't on that list, therefore the whole thing is invalidated. Please see that it is.
|
Benjamin Grimm Mar 11 2011 07:44 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Santana wasn't the winning pitcher in the game that Pelfrey saved.
|
Edgy DC Mar 11 2011 07:50 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
If he had been, he would have been pitching for 19 innings.
|
seawolf17 Mar 11 2011 07:52 AM Re: TRIVIA: Mets Win/Save Combination record |
Maybe if he DID, this team wouldn't have sucked last year.
