The band -- featuring Bag, later Sticks, on drums.

Oh, and Leather Tuscadero and the Suedes.

Garbage to me was always one of the most appropriately-named acts out there. When I heard them whining "I'm only happy when it rains" it turned me off the whole "alternative" rock scene for 20 years. Shut up, you cunt. Sing about girls and cars like you're supposed to.

One of my favorite bands, Paul Cebar and the Milwaukeeans, got plenty of airplay on Chicago's alt-rock station when I lived there in the 1990s, but they're virtually unknown outside the Milwaukee-Chicago nexus.

OE - the above bit of musical wonderment was brought to you thanks to the generous advice of a CPF mod. Thanks, JCL.

True, I would take the BoDeans over Garbage any day. The BoDeans are a tad overrated around here, so I get kind of sick of them because they are not my cup of tea.

I remember Paul Cebar has been around forever and still plays all the time.

Also, forum favorite Freedy Johnston (by way of Kansas and NYC) has a home here and uses the local studios.

Also, no discussion of Wisconsin music is complete without Weird Al Yankovic.

on edit - I always thought he was from Milw, but I'm wrong. He's a native Californian (?!?).

Re: HEY DEHR! A Crane Pool Guide to 'Sconnie Rock!

One of my first assignments as cub writer for the kollege paper was to go review a BoDeans concert. I thought they kicked ass live and tried to write as much but I wasn't yet familiar with the concept of press releases so I wrote the whole thing referring to them as "the one singer" "the other singer" "the bass player" etc.

They never got much better than their first record, and in general never wrote material good enough for those harmonies they could make.

PS, Chad, just copy the ID number of the video you wanna post and put that in the YOUTUBE tags. Should work.

Um, Gus Polinski? Polka King of the Midwest? Remember "Polka, Polka, Polka"? "Twin Lakes Polka"? Well, it's okay, I just thought you might have recognized... well, it was a long time ago.

Re: HEY DEHR! A Crane Pool Guide to 'Sconnie Rock!

If we're going to include polka, we need the Happy Schnapps Combo. I particularly like the image they use for "suck" at 1:56.

Every windbag who has referred to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry as "THE GREATEST RIVALRY IN SPORTS" needs to be stuffed into a green and yellow jersey and dropped by helicopter into the Soldier Field stands during a Bears-Packers game.
