Man that's just great , never dawned on me to think who might be the first.

Good story. I was always aware of Don Zimmer's version of the story, where Zim himself was the first player ever to put on the Mets uniform. As far as I know, that was the first attempt to flesh out Zim's version. I didn't know that Bob L. Miller also put on the uni for publicity shots that first day. Uni Watch's fine research, however, didn't answer which Met was the first to don the Met uni.

I own an original Type 1 photograph (struck from the original negative shortly after the picture was shot) of Zim, with his kid draped over his back, posing in the Mets uniform.

Too bad Zim was such a prick as an MFY cog.

Zim also let the "metal plate in his head" story circulate for decades before admitting that he doesn't actually have one.
He's a great character but I get the idea he's a bit of a lower-case Yogi at times in that there's probably some truth in most his stories but only some and the folks telling them (including himself) aren't really concerned with how much.
