MFY--Cheaters!

Worth reading--even if you don't like Keith O. politically--about what he observed at MFYS the other day:

That is interesting. Probably happens more than I think, but this is pretty blatant. It also proves Arod can count to four.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

I had no idea this was illegal as at least one version of this story have been openly written about prior to this.
Specifically one where none other than De-rek Jeet-ah has his own radar guy in the stands because Captain Clutch apparently needs to know the speed of the pitcher's fastball before heading to the plate without having to rely on the unpredictability of stadium guns. Gun man (maybe he's the second shooter) checks his readings during warmups (since DJ often led off) and openly used finger signals to relay the speed. Thumbs up followed by a 5, for instance, meant 95 mph; thumbs down coupled with a 2 indicates 88.

I can't remember now where I read the story but I'm sure it was one of the major local dailies and was written without any cloak and dagger sense about it. Gun man was certainly named and the whole thing was portrayed merely as another in the lengthy list of 'look how far this guy will go to excel' articles.

Update:

On Saturday 2nd April 2011, @KeithOlbermann said:
The signaler, Brett Weber, will NOT be sitting behind the plate today as Yanks "address." GM Brian Cashman explains he was relaying pitch speeds only, as scoreboard "gun" was out.
-----------------------------
Sure. That's why Keith said he saw the guy there last year. It's a shame that a big fancy new place as new MFYS has such an unreliable scoreboard.

Remember Brian, it's not so much the crime as it is the cover-up.
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel had better explanations for his fuck-ups than this one.

Of course. He could afford better writers than the Yankees. Remember, Tressel's players are paid more than the Yankees.
We now return you to the "Yanks are cheaters" theme of this thread.

Cashman: "In the first inning, the scoreboard was reading 912 miles an hour. Normally that stuff's out there. ... I think everyone realizes there's no advantages here. But there's a bulletin that says you're not supposed to do it. I think it's really silly personally."

And, fortunately for us, when the scoreboard reading all haywire we just happened to have a guy pre-stationed in the exact right spot in the stands with his own gun plus a headset.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

Yanx are cheating again today.
They've put two pitchers on the mound at the same time but are trying to disguise it by stuffing them both into the same uniform.
Apparently the names of the hurlers are Bartolo and Colon.

Can't believe Cashman really said this shit.

"Anybody who obsessed about it yesterday ... you know the psychotics [on the blogosphere] that obsessed about it all day yesterday. I think we all did them a favor by keeping them off the street. Preventing them from hurting others."

That bro is losing it.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

But Feliciano, who said he had never been on the DL in any of his previous eight major league seasons, said Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen hurt his feelings by saying concern over his number of appearances was the reason the Mets did not re-sign him after the 2010 season.

"I feel hurt a little by that," Feliciano said "I didn't sign with them because they offered me one year. But me and my agent, we wanted a multiyear. Two or more years and they just gave me one. That's why I'm not a Met right now."

The Yankees signed Feliciano to a two-year, $8 million deal with a club option for 2013, wanting a second lefty in their bullpen along with Boone Logan. Feliciano pitched four innings in spring training before being shut down on March 22.

There is no timetable for Feliciano's return but he is expected to play catch either Wednesday or Thursday.

"They said they didn't sign me because [they knew] I'm going to blow up this year," Feliciano said. "That hurts because I like Dan. But I will come out from this injury and I will be telling him there is still a lot of Feliciano to go."

Asked if he had called his former pitching coach to discuss his statements, Feliciano said, "No, no, no. No, no, no. I don't got his number or nothing. I will show him in the Subway Series when I strike out Ike Davis, and when I jump up and down on the mound I'll be like, 'That's for you.'"

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

wait, he likes Warthen but doesn't actually have his number?

Feliciano's probably right, and Dan probably shouldn't have extrapolated like that, but watch it Pedro..you were likely gonna get cheered at Citi, sorta, depending on the situation, but maybe not now.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

oh, i think he'll be cheered. i mean, why wouldn't he? this? this is nothing.

i think warthen was more taking the piss, specifically all over cashman and the abuse nonsense, without too much thought as to how pedro would take it. it's even less of a non-issue than the other foolishness.

What a sissy. I wish Old Hoss Radbourn was still alive to punch these Nancies in the fucking mouth when they said shit like this.

For what it's worth, I sure think that Warthen overplayed his hand.

Well, if it's bases loaded, down 1, 1 out, Ike up.. Probably not cheer worthy.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

I think there are some who are looking at him as a traitor. My own daughter, this morning, upon seeing Pedro as a Yankee on the back page of the Daily News, pounded the photo with her fist.

I explained to her that the Mets didn't want Pedro, and the Yankees did, but emotions often trump rational thought.

I have no ill feelings towards Pedro Feliciano, but I bet a lot of Mets fans do.

Yeah, maybe Pedro is still tabled and disabled at that point. If he's dressed as a Yankee, he'll certainly be mislabeled.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

Yankee's fat ass saves Yankee's fat ass!

The 37-year-old Colon has gone 2-1, with an earned run average of 3.81, since being inserted into the club’s starting rotation.

A doctor in Florida would like to take some of the credit. Joseph R. Purita, an orthopedic surgeon who runs a regenerative medicine clinic in Boca Raton, said he and a team of Dominican doctors that he led treated Colon in April 2010. Purita said he employed what he regards as one of his more pioneering techniques: he used fat and bone marrow stem cells from Colon, injecting them back into Colon’s elbow and shoulder to help repair ligament damage and a torn rotator cuff.

Purita said he flew to the Dominican Republic and performed the procedures for free, doing it at the behest of a medical technology company based in Massachusetts that he has done business with for several years. Purita, who has used human growth hormone in such treatments, said in an interview that that he had not done so in Colon’s case. The use of human growth hormone is banned by baseball.

“This is not hocus-pocus,” Purita said in an interview here. “This is the future of sports medicine, in particular. Here it is that I got a guy back playing baseball and throwing pitches at 95 miles an hour.”

And I flew to do this surgery for free, in the DR, because everything's completely above-board!

Colon, whose English is limited, answered only, “I don’t know, I don’t know,” in Spanish when asked last week about his medical treatment in the Dominican Republic. He was not available in the team’s clubhouse Wednesday evening.

Little-to-no-English after a decade and a half? Given his legendary physical work ethic and yogi-like nutritional discipline, I'm shocked.

Re: MFY--Cheaters!

I'm sure all the (Yankees) fans that were convinced Reyes and Beltran (And A-Roid) used HGH because of Galea are saying the same about this guy right?

It feels like cheating somehow, but maybe it really is the way medicine and stem cells and the like are going?
