Amazon MP3 Cloud Player and Other Music Players

Absolutely loving this from Amazon, Cloud is the way of the future(some think not) and more and more iTunes is getting serious competition weather it be from Rdio as championed by JCL or various apps like Audio Galaxy that I have been using with my Cloud laptop http://www.google.com/chromeos/pilot-program-cr48.html.

The idea that you need to use space on your hard drive for files like music is becoming less and less the norm at least going forward.

I bought Lonely Runs Both Ways by Alison Krauss & Union Station for $3.99 and with that purchase my online storage in Amazon Cloud was upgraded to 20 gigs on top of my fee 5 gigs starting out......that 20 gig storage will last for a year and you can then pay $20 for it or pay more for more.....good deal....and here is a really cool deal , music you buy from the Amazon MP3 store does not go against your online storage.....

Google are coming out with their Cloud store soon and I can't wait for that(big google fan) ,

Amazon Cloud does have the drawback of only being available on Android phones.....they are not saying it but Apple wouldn't let them have one of the iPhone....

Audio Galaxy has phone apps ans it works great , basically you can upload all your music to their cloud and take it on the go....big difference I have noticed is that Amazon's sound quality is superior to any of the other ones like Audio Galaxy , mSpot music to name a few.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just old school, but I like having my music on my player. I'm sure I'll join the cloud eventually, but the appeal just isn't there for me yet. I have 10,000 songs on my 160 GB iPod right now, so it's not like I have any lack of music to listen to.

I like my Rhapsody service.

$13/month and I can stream whatever music I want on my PC or phone AND I can download what I want to my PC for offline use or to play on my iPod.

I should add that the music you buy you can download directly to your device /PC and whatever...

I love music more than ever, but I can't adapt to new delivery services over and over. I'm just too busy and my wife too conservative with the purse. It's starting to depress me.

Do these cloud things allow you to export music to an ordinary iPod or does it have to be a smart phone? I have no interest in anything that will just work on my computer or that I need to buy a smartphone and pay monthly fees to verizon/AT&T/whatever in addition to the monthly fee for the cloud service so I can listen to it while I work. But if I can download music and play it on my iPod I may be swayed. Still I like the tangibility of owning the actual recordings in some format or another.

All of my friends are now re-building their vinyl collections. I've recently thought about going back to that medium as well.

Re: Amazon MP3 Cloud Player and Other Music Players

I am about 99% certain that any music I buy from Amazon can go to my iTunes too....I'll check when I go home....I say check because I rarely use my iPod now....Lorcan calls it his phone and uses it to play youtube vids and plays Angry Birds and doodles..

Bingo

I saved music to Cloud Drive but I wanted to download it. What do I do?
You can still download your music to your computer or Android device. From Amazon Cloud Player, select the music you want to download using the check boxes. Next, click the Download button in the upper right of Cloud Player. This will open the Downloader and download music from Cloud Drive to your device. If you have the Downloader set to import your music to iTunes or Windows Media Player, it will automatically be added to your music library there.

You guys know I'm a big rdio fan, just the possibilities are worth my $5/month. The social features help keep you interested, and there's no better way to discover new music anymore.

I read somewhere that Rhapsody streams at a lower bit rate than some others, not that'd know what that means. I will say using rdio on the desktop at home has me thinking of upgrading my cheapo computer sound system.

I have a neighbor with a very impressive LP collection but it takes up his whole apartment. I gave away half my record collection a few years ago, kept the ones I loved from my youth the way I kept my baseball cards. Not sure what to do with them!

Re: Amazon MP3 Cloud Player and Other Music Players

Yeah, if I was trying to play Rhapsody downloads on a system that cost me thousands of dollars, I would notice that the quality was lower due to their bitrate. But really, unless you are a true audiofile, the difference isn't noticeable...at least for my applications.

High quality vinyl interests me...but again, in order to appreciate it, I would need to spend $$$$ on a nice sound system with turntable.

Re: Amazon MP3 Cloud Player and Other Music Players

The only music I pay for is XM, and that's a function of my two daily hours of commuting. I have a radio in the car and also can listen on my phone with their free App.

At work they limit what we can stream. So we stood up a server on our test network with 200 GB of music on it and we take turns picking out what we listen to, or we plug in and use headphones.

I also have a server in my basement where I have 70 GB of music on a publicly accessible web server. Using Subsonic, a free music server program. Using it, I can listen to it at home, on trips, and I have an app so I can get to all of it on my iPhone. That, plus free services like Slacker and Rhapsody, and the app for my XM radio subscription, leaves me no shortage of options.
