Re: Happy Birthday dgw!

For DGW: Top ten pop songs about photography (as opposed to songs about photograhs, which are legion).

10) "F-Stop Blues" --- Jack Johnson: It's a Hendrix-inspired slow blues on guitar, and I like that, but the vocal seems out of step with the feeling of the guitar, so this is number 10.

9) "Minature Secret Camera" --- Peter Murphy: He's like an existential spy.

8) "Camera Eye" --- Rush: something about watching a mass of New York humans through a camera.

7) "Blue Money" --- Van Morrison: a song about the joys of freeloading off of your girlfriend's pornography earnings.

6) "Red Light" --- Siouxsie and the Banshees: a song about what pornagraphy really does to our humanity.

5) "Kamera" --- Wilco: Not sure what it's specifically about, something about being lost. Good stuff, though, with like an acoustic version of a driving Judas Priest rhythm track underpinning it.

4) "Distant Camera" --- Neil Young: Something about how when the world grows too confusing, a camera can help by freezing a moment in time with a limited number elements that you can study until things become clearer.

3) "Freeze Frame" --- The J. Giels Band: Had the added grace of a paint fight video.

2) "Camera" --- REM: from their muttery period, but I think he adores a lover to the point where he has metaphorically become her camera, recording her frame-by-frame in his mind.

1) "Kodachrome" --- Paul Simon: Natch

Thanks, everyone. Just think, we're only 52 years from first contact with the Vulcans...
