MK and his team, who entered the National History Bowl state competition pretty much on a whim, will be competing at the national competition in DC next month.

I shall Willets! The odds are that they're going to get their asses kicked - they entered this thing very late in the game. But they're a JV team comprised of freshmen, and are looking to learn just how this competition works so that they can truly kick some ass two and three years down the line :) It helps that the kids involved are a good group. MK has been in the band, marching band, Boy Scouts, Little League and Future Problem Solving with them (not every kid in every one of those activities, but all of them in several different activities); not only are they smart, but they're good kids. If MK winds up working with them and hanging out with them for the next three years, D-Dad and I will be thrilled.

I would have LOVED to have had an opportunity like that! Social studies was my best subject. Now, do they have cool uniforms? Tell MK to start working on his quotes for the media. "We're gonna take this one question at a time..."

MK and his team went 5-3 in DC and came in 9th place in the JV competition. FWIW, the three teams that beat him were all in the top eight. So it was a good showing by a team that basically entered the competition on the spur of the moment. Just think of how they'll do next year with some preparation!
