Of all the lousy Mets baseball we've seen this year, that's the worst. Unbelievable.

I said the same thing to D-Dad. Terry should have slapped Muffy upside the head for that nonsense.

We need an ejection or a brawl or something. Though I don't think this team has it in it.

Lead off an inning with a double and then promptly got thrown out trying to steal third. Down 3-0. And he was out by four steps.

Murphy can get sent down.

Pelfrey can suck some bullpen.

Nice of the bullpen to finally show up - but it's wasted during the game we get 2-hit.

7 runs given up in the DH - 5 of them after 2 outs and no one on.

Yeah I've heard enough from Dickey to last me until next winter myself. As far as I'm concerned he's lost the privilege of blowing away fanboys and the fourth estate with erudite remarks and 50-cent words, at least until he gives us the kind of starting pitching performance his teammates might look to emulate.

I'll save the Post the trouble of writing the headline over Joel Sherman's column about the pitcher who decided to not answer questions in his usual articulate and presumably natural manner because things weren't going as well as they had before.

KNUCKLEBALLER TURNS KNUCKLEHEAD
Dickey, delightful while winning, now a silent loser

Though, yes, all players playing lousy on lousy teams tend to seem less charming amid the lousiness.

I could live without the in-game interviews altogether, regardless of the subject.

Re: IGT 4/16/11 - Mets vs. Braves, Game 2

I'm pretty sure Dickey could have intelligently declined the in-game interview.

"I'm sorry, but given the morbid state of our offense and the deplorable results gleaned from our pitching staff this week, I believe it is in our team's best interest to refrain from tiresome and middling interviews while the game progresses. I trust you will understand that anything less would be an unfortunately unacceptable distraction from our united efforts to reverse our team's fortunes."

Such a non-response response would have deserved its own segment, Fox's Interview Request Refusal of the Week: Brought to you by Celibacy -- When Saying No Is The Right Thing To Do.

I assume these things are set up in conjunction with MLB and teams are strongly encouraged to serve up their players. Fox, I also assume, likely asked for Dickey and since he wasn't pitching, there he was. I forget who represented the Braves (someone not talking about his winter plans) but they had a guy doing the tiresome and middling thing in the next half-inning.

Dave Ross, backup catcher, self-consciously "miked up". It was like what happens when you tell your hammy uncle to "act natural."

Ojeda speaking out about this is a very Keithly brand of stupid tough-talk-for-tough-talk's sake.

Re: IGT 4/16/11 - Mets vs. Braves, Game 2

If I was Dickey, I'd try to not feed into the "Hey look at the guy who uses three-syllable words" sideshow.

I'd feel very self-conscious being known as the "one smart guy" in baseball, when 1) it's not true and 2) he may be bright, but I see no sign of "genius" in him.

Re: IGT 4/16/11 - Mets vs. Braves, Game 2

Not a genius, just a penchant for thinking before answering and a vocabulary that goes eight almost every time out. If the knuckleball doesn't fight through its chaotic nature (et al), something tells me he'll be inquired upon less frequently and Bobby O can move on to blaming, say, Bobby Parnell for not using more syllables.

You're letting your team down on the mound and then you can't even give a decent accounting of yourself after the game when everybody's listening to you and waits for you to step up? I'm sorry, but there's a code that says you tell the media what's on your mind and you do it thoroughly. I know some of the guys on the team are from Latin America, but Parnell doesn't have that excuse. He has to say more than, 'I was bad.' It's getting old and Terry -- and Jay Horwitz -- have to address the clubhouse before it gets out of hand.

While Collins's presumed use of Valium has diminished his postgame entertainment value, I must admit that in lieu of wins, Ojeda taking off in bizarre directions has become the best thing about Mets baseball.

Re: IGT 4/16/11 - Mets vs. Braves, Game 2

But I get the point. Ofttimes when guys get a rep for being quotable, they start treating it as a brand and polishing their schtick. amd going from refreshingly enlightening to insurrably pandering.

Rock Ascending Dickey certainly isn't there yet, but it's something to be wary of.

Re: IGT 4/16/11 - Mets vs. Braves, Game 2

He didn't show off. He kindasorta deflected McCarver's attempts to get him to show off.

He may be violating an unspoken code by talking about the offseason and all, but then, his offseason plan is CLIMBING FUCKING KILAMANJARO, AND HE'S DOING IT TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A GROUP THAT RESCUES GIRLS FROM HUMAN TRAFFICKING. I normally hate the Fox in-games, but, frankly, if a Brave were doing the same thing, I would rather hear him talk about it in-game than watch uninterrupted the brand of baseball the Mets and Braves put on display yesterday.
