Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

Aggressive baserunning by Chip Hale, sending Thole home with 1 out. with 2 outs I think its automatic that you send him and with 0 outs you don't. 1 out is where Hale has a really tough decision (which he has to make instantly) and it worked out here!

LGM!

I like it, Heyward has a good arm and it took a good throw perfectly on-line, something that seems pretty rare even in the majors, to make it close.

Not often that you see a catcher get an unassisted double play.

That was pretty sweet.

Thats a nice way to end the inning, pitcher striking out with the squeeze play on! double play!

I left work pretty convinced that the Braves were about to break the game open. I was wondering how the mets got out of that one.

Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

Wright 0-3, 3 k's now. I know he's still very good, but I think the great player we saw in '07-'08 just isn't coming back sometimes.

Why would you run with Thole there? he's a dead duck on a strikeout, which Hanson and Wright are both good at producing

Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

I think he's taken for granted and run out there every day, every inning through slumps. Howdy Doody woulnd't say so, but he probably could use the occasional day off.

GameDay showed a flat slider down the middle to Davis and I knew he'd tag it.

Probably about as often as you see a guy make a big defensive play and then come up big with the bat the next inning?

My guess: Buchholz, Isringhausen, Rodriguez.

Ownership also LET Omar hand out that contract. His games finished count at this point isn't in the "Danger Zone", and i won't care if the Mets win the division, but certainly if the Mets are out of contention later in the year, this becomes focus #1: rooting for blown saves.

Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

Was that Emaus' last game as a Met?
Gee can stay when they send Pelfrey to the minor (I can hope).
One of the RPs needs to go when Bay returns to get another bat on the bench.

Now for a Rangers win and a Knicks win.

Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

* Was that Emaus' last game as a Met? -- Doubt it. It's not like CL Hu is knocking down walls either and I don't think they're going to give up on a Rule 5 guy in mid-April, particularly one that Riccardi drafted and now helped re-draft. He's just not going to start as often as many of us (me included) thought at the beginning.

* Gee can stay when they send Pelfrey to the minor (I can hope). -- Pelfrey's not getting sent down (I don't even think he can be). Gee can hang around while Young is on the shelf as far as I'm concerned and maybe longer. No one ever considered Gee a "high ceiling" guy as he was rising through the system but it wouldn't be the first time that predictions like that miss.

* One of the RPs needs to go when Bay returns to get another bat on the bench. -- Agreed, but the 13-man pen turned out to be almost a necessity in a week where they twice had three games inside a 24 hour window. Of course the expanded pen allowed us to pile up a ton of wins, but maybe it helped preserve a few arms for later on.

* Now for a Rangers win and a Knicks win. -- Anything is possible I suppose. Then throw in a Yanqui loss tonight and I'll go break out the good booze.

There'll be no happiness for you that way. My modem crashed after the four-pitch walk, and I wasn't able to re-connect until the game was over. I was certainly hoping for a win.

Really, it's not like the Mets are unaware of Rodriguez's clause. If he triggers it, either the new management has come to accept it or is just as foolish and hate-worthy as Omar. We really shouldn't get too wrapped up. There's plenty of baseball to play before this comes to a head.

I'd like to see Hu get a start or two. Givng him a chance to ge going and Emaus a new persective can only help them both at this point.

Gee might be able to displace Capuano from the rotation, if he turns in a few more solid starts while Young is out. (And if Capuano does less well, of course.) Gee would have a much harder time bumping Niese, Pelfrey, or Dickey, obviously. Although Pelfrey should be more vulnerable than he probably is.

I got fucked here. I subscribed to the MLB Extra Innings package with the specific hope that it'd get me the WPIX/non-SNY weekend games I used to get with Time Warner. But alas, they are blacked out.

I will be calling FIOS tomorrow to give them a what-for. The fucks.

Yeah. I get pissed when he comes in down by 3 runs and gets the game finished, because that just has the potential to contribute to a sticky situation down the road, but I am not near rooting for a blown save yet.

Fman99: I don't know who decides which feed is used on the cable version of Extra Innings but it's the same feed for all non-satellite customers (so venting to FIOS won't help). If there is a slot for one game, it's usually the home feed unless the home team is on broadcast TV (e.g. WPIX) and the visitor is on cable. When the Mets are on the road, you can sometimes get lucky, such as the 2d game of the DH last night (if you call watching that game lucky). When they were in Philadelphia, the 1st 2 games used the SNY feed and the 3d used the Phillies feed. After the hockey playoffs, they sometimes have both feeds. It's hard to figure it out sometimes and, again, I don't know where the decisions are made. I've asked on a board for TV sports and nobody had an answer.

Re: IGT 4/17/11 - Mets at Braves

If we truly have the general contempt for bunting that we claim to have, then surely we all have to see that rooting for failure because the Mets are too stupid to respond intelligently to success is pretty much the fan's version of emotionally bunting the whole season long.

Swing the bat!
