Pestering the Sally again in 2011: Your Savannah Sand-Gnats

This looks to be my fave squad so far, even if it doesn't include Count John. The notably inclusion is Corey Vaughn. This team is gonna score a shitload of runs.

Yohan Almonte - 6'1" 150 lbs? Skinny kid.

Some of the mags I've read have said Aderlin Rodriguez may have the most potential as a power hitter in the entire system.

It could be wrong. Angel Cuan was officially listed at 5'1", which must be wrong, so I corrected it.

Ceciliani-Rodriguez-Vaughn are gonna scare the shit out of Sally league pitching.

Robbie Shields has a chance not to suck too.

If Forsythe does here what he did last year, I'd have to think that he's done as a serious prospect given his age, even at a position like catcher.

What a waste of a sorta-high pick.

This was the Sand Gnats opening day line up--

Darrell Ceciliani CF
Robbie Shields SS
Cory Vaughn LF
Sam Honeck 1B
Aderlin Rodriguez 3B
Javier Rodriguez RF
Albert Cordero C
Wilfredo Tovar 2B
Alonzo Harris DH

Interesting for the fact: Your future lead-off hitter and centerfielder hit lead-off and played centerfield.

doubled and homered in his 1st 2 ABs as well. That's my (non-released) boy!

BA Notes:
Mets low Class A third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez already has 11 errors in 36 games. There’s no mystery there, though: If he’s going to be a big league regular, his bat is going to have to carry him. Yet Rodriguez, 19, is hitting just .208/.255/.429 for Savannah. Rodriguez was terrific yesterday though, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, his fourth dinger in the last week. With nine home runs already, Rodriguez is a legitimate slugger, it’s just a matter of getting more polish at the plate in time.

Alonzo Harris goes 4-4 with two homers as Savannah routs the rival Charleston River Dogs, 15-3.

That puts Savannah up by two games in the South Division of the South Atlantic League. They've already got the first-half championship sewn up.

If they win the second half, are the playoffs an intrasquad matchup?

I would expect that they'd advance directly to the championship round.
