He missed the chip-in for a 15 ...

The subject heading is a variation on a punch-line to a golfer's joke: "How did [_______] manage to score a 16 on one hole?"

PGA pro Kevin Na (pronounced Na) hacked his way to a 16 on the par 4 ninth hole in yesterday's Texas Open.

I'm not sure any film of this exists as TV cameras weren't likely to be focused on a run of the mill pro during the opening round on a Thursday afternoon, but Na's less-than-excellent adventure started with a lost tee shot followed by an equally lousy (but found) second shot (third with the penalty). His fourth shot then not only caromed off a tree but then hit himself which adds a two-stroke penalty to the growing disaster. It was at this point where things started to get bad. What followed was a series of attempts (some of which were described as resembling a man trying to kill a snake) which apparently included a swing and a miss, a shot which barely nudged the ball on account of a lie which required him to swing lefty, and then a series of hacks designed to get himself back in the direction of the correct fairway. He never did reach the fairway as his 14th shot was hit out of the rough and onto the fringe of the green.
After that it was just a quick pitch & a putt and on to the next hole.

The good news is he was 4-under for the rest of the round - including three birdies and no bogeys after the melt-down hole - and so only carded an 80 for the day.

Does your typical righthanded pro carry a lefthanded six iron in his bag just in case?

I did this at miniature golf last summer.

No.
What they generally do is take a regular RH iron and turn it over (think toe-down/heel-up) and swing lefty.
There is a kind of 'two-way' club that some amateurs use (and by amateurs I mean hackers, not those playing for amateur championships) where the club face(s) is a inverted V shape so you can at least hit a bump-and-run either way. Pros and serious ams are usually too worried which of the various lofted drivers they should leave out vs how many different wedges they should carry for that day's particular course conditions to carry such a gimmick club that they might only use once every dozen rounds or so. You're limited to 14 clubs.

Sheesh, swinging in the trees, swinging lefthanded, and using an inverted righthanded club --- sounds like a triple handicap.

Not only were they following him, but he was miked. Here's some footage of the feat:

It starts with his first tee shot, which went into the woods. He took a penalty and tried again, only to make things worse.
