Looking forward to HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' which is starting tomorrow night.

I've also been watching the FX animated series 'Archer' which is fall on the fucking floor funny. If you haven't seen it you are missing pure genius.

Thursday night's episode of The Office with Will Ferrell as the new boss was freakin' hilarious.

Shameless was good. Continued to get better as the season progressed.

I very much enjoy Justified, on FX. Also, check out The Killing on AMC.

Two shows I've been meaning to watch. Read about 'The Killing' and I'm a fan of Timothy Olyphant - loved him in 'Deadwood'

I was actually surprised that The Paul Reiser Show -- which got very little publicity, so they're probably just burning it off -- was so good. Not a comic gem, but funny enough for another viewing. It's sort of the anti-Curb-Your-Enthusiasm (a point explicitly made in the episode).

Nice cameos by Larry David and Mark Burnett.

Oh, yes. Funniest thing on television/streaming computer. (Although it took me a bit to stop thinking, "Why's Dr. Katz's son a spy now?")

Also good-- surprisingly so, in fact? Traffic Light, on Fox. Goofy heart and sharp writing. It REALLY works-- I like it better than any of the NBC Thursday stuff, in fact.

It presents itself very much like Curb (which was the point of the joke, I thought). It comes off similarly in rhythm, only with the "painful, borderline cruel humor" excised and replaced with "hokey sitcom jokes and offputting, stylized navel-gazing." It's a pretty big indicator when "I thought you were going to tell me you were gay" is the half-hour's big laugh line. Terrible, and a terrible waste of a bunch of actors I like (Ben Shenkman, Andrew Daly) in other stuff.

I don't really get into family dramas, so I'm a little surprised to find myself so absorbed by Parenthood. Jason Katims knows how to work a writing staff/cast so as to make good TV drama beats that feel more authentic than the usual 10 o'clock fare (see also: Friday Night Lights).

absolutely hate it and the wife loves it......here is what I hate about it, every single fucking character has multiple issues and they all talk in such an annoying way when they are angry , super fast,stop/start that is meant I guess to convey real feeling and depth.

are there families out there like that?, mine certainly weren't and isn't and I don't know anyone's whose is. I imagine the Kennedy's were like that.

and I especially dislike the Dax Sheppard character , you knew he was going to fuck it up with "her in doors" right?

yes I have watched it when I can't weasel my way out from it.

Re: What's on Your Telly in 2011?

I started watching the Killing, I'm not quite 'into' it yet though. Haven't watched last night's episode yet, and recorded game of thrones because i've heard so much about it. Wondering if i should read it first though.

I tend to avoid new TV this time of year though. If we start filling up the DVR the wife "forgets" that there is a baseball game to watch.

The talking-over-each-other-thing? A function, I think, of the semi-improvised scenework (actors given a direction in which to take the scene, and certain key lines/beats to include).

are there families out there like that?, mine certainly weren't and isn't and I don't know anyone's whose is. I imagine the Kennedy's were like that.

Growing up in the city-- around a lot of therapists' kids and lawyers' kids-- I knew a frightening amount of superverbose, walking-case-study kids. A few more, but to a lesser degree, once we moved out to the 'burbs. (Although there was a LOT of prescription-pad/alcohol access.) Maybe it's an urban thing?

and I especially dislike the Dax Sheppard character , you knew he was going to fuck it up with "her in doors" right?

Well, yeah... how long he was going to hold out fucking that up was the real test. Really good casting, methinks. (Perennial f-ups trying to make good... but, well... tell me you don't know guys/have family like that.)

Certain actors annoy the hell out of me on there (like Peter Krause, who I've liked in other stuff but hate in this), but most of the work, especially by the kids/teens (Mae Whitman's good, the "autistic" kid is amazingly/abrasively real, and the guy who plays the black boyfriend Alex, played one of my favorite Wire characters as a little kid), is great.

Baseball. It's the good part of the year.

OK, and Dancing With The Stars. But primarily to see how Ralph Macchio does, since I went to high school with him.

Season 5 of Friday Night Lights is airing now, but we bought the DVD and plowed right through it. Great show.

I didn't realize, until I actually overheard a passing reference at work to something Gary Busey said or did on the other night's Celebrity Apprentice episode and not only got it, but felt compelled-- if just for a moment-- to chime in, that I've been watching an absolute shit-ton more Celebrity Apprentice than I ever intended to.

A recap that's far better than the last episode or two can be found at the link, courtesy of New York's Tom Scharpling.

The men, at least, are interesting this season. We haven't watched any iteration of the show since the first couple of seasons, but we accidentally caught the art gallery episode featuring the Loaf/Busey war, and it was great TV.

Re: What's on Your Telly in 2011?

I feel for Meat Loaf. He's like the employee in a drama-filled office who just wants to get the work done well and go home.

The Real Housewife Nene is the show's MVP so far. The camera asides and eyerolls at others' foibles have been hee-larious.

Saw the other day that Meatloaf is "worth" around $50 million , did he co-write his songs?

BTW , up to episode 6 on Shameless on demand.......liking it a lot......William H Macy is such a great actor , the whole cast is superb, yer one playing Fiona is super hot.

Re: What's on Your Telly in 2011?

How does Star Jones continue to fly under the radar?

She is the absolute worst. Doing nothing and taking all the credit. She's driving me crazy!

And yes, Macy's a great actor. Fantastic in 'Fargo' and very good in another movie with Alec Baldwin called 'The Cooler'. Check that one out if you haven't seen it.

All of the Bat out of Hell songwriting credits belong to Steinman. 50 Million for the Meat. Being the Meat has had some personal issues over the years I would have guessed far less. Good for him.

Um... did I hear him incorrectly, or did Donald Trump indeed make a comment last night about how relatively pleasant Star Jones' ass was-- as an object to crawl inside-- since her weight loss?

I only watched the episode where they did the children's book, and only because one of the judges was the publisher of our children's division.

Im all about The Killing. I thought the two hour pilot was the best pilot I've seen since Lost. Due to vaca, have to catch up on the last two eps.
