Mookie
To the tune of "Spooky" by the Classics Four.

In the cool of the evening
When everything was getting really crazy
Mookie walks up to the plate
And the Red Sox title hopes are getting hazy
Carter has scored; the Mets are down by one run
There are two runners on base
Anything can happen with our Mookie in the batter's box

Bob Stanley must be nervous
We can not really know what he is thinking
If he can get Mookie out
It’s for sure all that champagne will be for drinking
The pitch goes astray, Mookie goes head over heels
And when Mitchell scores, how good it feels
Anything can happen with our Mookie in the batter's box
Mookie

We'll remember this day that got the Red Sox hearts to start a-breaking
Mookie slaps a ball that rolls past first and Shea is now a-rocking and a-shaking
Buckner hangs his head; this will be haunting his dreams
And we can't believe what we've seen
Anything can happen with our Mookie in the batter's box
Mookie

Ahh, ahh, Mookie, mmm, Mookie, ahh, ahh, ahh, Mookie, ooh, Mookie
Ahh, aah, aah, Mookie

Waiting on Anita.

Remind yourself about "Spooky" here.

I don't know if this will work, but here's a link to the original:

The link works, excellent choice, I imagine Mookie might even listen to that .

"Spooky" was considered Southern Rock????

Run, Run, Run
(to the tune of "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys)

It's the last of the ninth with the Angels ahead 2 to 1 now
K-Rod on the mound, it'll be hard to score us a run now.
When Wright goes down swinging it looks as if we might be done now
We need to run, run, run, till we get a runner over the plate

So Willie calls me and tells me "It's all up to you now"
I picked up my bat and I knew what I needed to do now
Just get a good hit, making sure that the ball would go through now
And I can run run run, and let someone put me over the plate.

I fouled off a pitch and Rodriguez, he threw me three balls now
I sent the next one that he threw to the right center wall now
And they don't make that catch, so I go around touching them all now
Watch me run, run, run till I make it all the way to the plate.

They got a run in the tenth and led with the score 3 to 2 now
A single, a walk and then Donnelly, he struck out two now
With the count two and and two on Cliff Floyd, that guy really came through now
And they can run, run, run till all three of them get to the plate.

Awesome. If these two are any indication, it's going to be a great contest! Great jobs both of you!

Nice job to both of you.

I will never enter this contest.

I had Mookie and considered Spooky once.

Yes, good job both.

And the contest gets started with a bang. Well done!

Yancy, down 3-2, has thundered back with eight unanswered votes. It's 8-3, Yancy Street Gang.

I like thundering back. I don't think I've ever thundered before.

Both good.

Wasn't there a comment last year that songs that tell more about a player than just one game were preferrable to a "one-gamer"? (IIRC it may have been Annie's song about one Darryl or Doc game)
In any event, both of these songs fall into the one-game mode, so it was a moot point.

This one is tough.

spooky seems more challenging a song to work with, but, and maybe this is just due to my own unfamiliarity with the work, i just cant get the parody to scan for me.

i voted "run"

Did they raise the apple for the inside-the-park home run?

SwitchHitter is making an overnight comeback.

Oct 27 2005 11:55 PM

this was very close, i went with switchhitter because the song she chose i knew the tune to right away and was laughing as i read it.
yancy's lyrics are funny but i had to download the song just to know it and that was enough to push switchhitter over the top for me, very good job by both however.

Is it over, or are we going 48 hours this year?

Oct 28 2005 02:30 PM

Edgy, can you watch IP addresses? i wonder if someone could make 5 new names and vote with all of them...i don't think anyone here is that desperate to win this thing but i've seen it done on other message boards and just had to ask if you'd know about it?

Looks like it's over. Congrats Yancy. Annie, we have some nice parting gifts for you. Thanks for playing.

Yancy Street Gang
Oct 28 2005 02:59 PM

Wow. I never expected to advance to the second round.

Great job by Annie. She was a worthy opponent.

This means I get custody of Lee Mazzilli and the rest of her guys?

ScarletKnight41

Yes Yancy - to the victor go the spoils.

Annie wins by losing - she gets to open up the Loser's Lounge and she has first crack at the bar and the buffet table.

Kudos to both participants on a job well done.

>>> just had to ask if you'd know about it?<<<

We know where everyone works, goes to school, the name of their barber,
what they had for breakfast last Sunday, and if they'd vote twice.

Well, only sorta. I guess someone could have a work ID and and a home
ID and vote twice ... that would be so lame I wouldn't even know how to
address it except ... getalife.
