Sorry to have to post this here early Mole, but I have the day from Hell coming up and don't want to leave you waiting around for me all day.

"Up on the Hill and Far Away"

Goodbye Lee, we've got the stud we need
A Yalie, he's hot stuff
Oh Darling, Darling, Darling, he's got the arm we need
Oh he's got so much...

Many girls have loved - Many teen girls smitten
Many eyes have gazed at Ron from head to toe

Many batters try - Many swing and missing
Many times we win, the dream begins to grow

Many dream the Mets can go far with this winning
Ron lives for the dream and a ring made out of gold.

This fellow is a man who gets the no-decision
Many many wins he really should be owed.

Many think of Straw, and Mex and Nails and Gooden
But this fine Hawaiian; you really ought to know, ooh!
You really ought to know...

Damn.

I actually thought that this was Mole's until I scrolled back up.

Nicely done.

Here's mine...

I WANNA BE SEDATED

I pitched a no hitter for Binghamton I wanna be sedated
But then I got hit with that depression I wanna be sedated
Well everybody thought that I could pull that chain
I blew out my elbow it was nothin’ but pain
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no
80 miles an hour that’s how hard I can throw

Am I just a minor leaguer or a Long Island Duck
I can't control my fingers how am I gonna chuck
Just give me that Prozac and I won’t give a fuck
Oh no no no no no

Only 32 and I’m already scarred I wanna be sedated
Got another chance as a St. Louis Card I wanna be sedated
Got to show LaRussa I can pitch with verve
Hurry hurry hurry before I lose my nerve
I can't control my fingers I can't control my curve
Oh no no no no no
Nine nine nine innings to go...

Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated
Ba-ba-bamp-ba ba-ba-ba-bamp-ba I wanna be sedated

Wow!

Best. First-round. Matchup. Ever.

I have to climb the mountain and consult the wise one before voting on this.

We should make sure when songs are posted that it's clear what song is being parodied, and who the player is, since some songs don't mention the player's name. (I was able to figure out that Annie was doing Marlon Anderson, and that Mole is doing Bill Pulsipher, but it may not always be so easy to figure.) Also, I can't identify which song Willets' Ron Darling parody is based on.

Don't tell me you guys never got the Led out...
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant...? Ring any bells...?
What about Sabbath...?
AC/DC? Motorhead...?
Oh, what do they teach in this place?!

I second that.

"Over the Hills and Far Away" by Led Zeppelin. I think its good for people to have to figure it out for a few hours before the submitter tells them (which generally is what we do).

It's a risk, though. I'm more likely to vote with a known song over one that I can't figure out.

I need to think about this one over lunch.

I don't see the big deal. Edgy figured it out and posted a link. Someone always does. I think its more fun to read the song for the first time cold, not knowing the song.

Either way can work. Great parody, Willets.

Good job both of you. A really tough call, I had to read them both a few times. I voted for the song about the pitcher that thought too much on the mound and frustrated people by never living up to his potential.

Wow. This gets harder the more I sing both of them.

I like that, since I'm Met-challenged.

You as well. Arena rock vs. punk is the eternal battle, isn't it?

A question for the rules comittee: Does voting close at 7:10 AM on Nov. 1st?

gotta

gotta go with Willets, since I couldn't figure out who the player was for the Old Mole. Love the 80's references, however!! My time.

no-hitter for binghamton, throws 80-mph, long island ducks...i knew it was Pulsipher, but yeah i'd like to see the guy's name mentioned unless it is in the song.

Great work, both of you.

Well played, old chap!

I was so torn on this one, I must have cast the last vote -- thankfully not the deciding one.

In the end I went with "This fellow is a man who gets the no-decision."

TheOldMole

Willets -- the better man won. I'll be rooting for you the rest of the way (which means I'll recuse myself from voting in your competitions).
