Hotel Flushing
Carlos Beltran
Song is of course Eagles' Hotel California

Hotel Flushing

In a cool New York winter
Beltran signed a deal
Warm smell of dollars
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
Carlos saw the New York lights
His pockets were heavy, and he had a grin
He had to stop for nine years
There he stood in the doorway
Counting that one hundred nineteen mill
And he was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then the season started
And he played in a crappy way
There were voices coming from the fans and media
He could heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel Flushing
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place (background)
Just don’t smash your face
Plenty of room at the Hotel Flushing
One of these years
One of these years (background)
You might make it here
You might make it here

In KC he was awesomely wicked
He got that Rookie of the year gems
He got a lot of pretty pretty stats
That can impress friends
Then he went to Houston
Sweet summer sweat
Had a postseaon to remember
But a regular season to forget
But Omar called up Scott Boras
Please bring me Beltran
Omar said
We probably haven't had that kind of spirit here since 1969
And still those fans are calling from far away
Call WFAN in the middle of the night
Just hoping Beltran will hear them say

Welcome to the Hotel Flushing
It’s a lovely Place
It’s a lovely Place (background)
Just get on a good pace
Beltran’s not livin' it up at the Hotel Flushing
What a crappy surprise
What a crappy surprise (background)
Beltran and his alibies

Houston’s ’05 NL Flag’s on the ceiling
The Mets’ champagne on ice
And the media said
You are just a prisoner here
Of your own device
And in the media's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But will they kill the beast?
Last thing Carlos has to remember
In case he rushes for the door
There isn’t a passage back to the place I was before
They may have the NL Champions,
But at Shea we are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave

I really like it in song parodies when a line from the original song is left unchanged but takes on entirely new meaning in the context of the parody.

Hotel Shea in Flushing works better than just Flushing, no?

No coaching. It puts the chicken at a disadvantage.

Wait, I'm arbitrarily making up rules. Forget what I said.

Don't Pitch -
Mike Dejean
(Song is Don't Speak - No Doubt. Here is a link to the song: http://dan.hosting.ru/music/dontspeak.mp3)

Mike Dejean
He got it all together
In '04 together, almost
I really feel
That he's losing his best stuff
I can't believe
'05 could be the end
It looks as though they've let 'em go
And if it's real
Then I am glad to know

Don't pitch
They know just what you're throwing
It's like you're pitch tipping
Don't bean them cause it hurts.
Don't pitch
They know what you're throwing
It's like you're pitch tipping
Don't bean them cause it hurts.

The memories
Well, they were unexciting
Most of which altogether
Mighty frightening
Long hit flies, both left and right
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

Don't pitch
They know just what you're throwing
It's like you're pitch tipping
Don't bean them cause it hurts. (no no no)
Don't pitch
They know what you're throwing
It's like you're pitch tipping
Don't bean them cause it hurts.

It's all ended
I can stop pretending who you were...
Mike Dejean
I can see you dying...
Did you?

Don't pitch
They know just what you're throwing
It's like you're pitch-tipping
Don't bean them cause it hurts. (no, no)
Don't pitch
They know what you're thinking
And I don't need you reasons
Don't bean them cause it hurts.
Don't bean them cause it hurts!
They know what your throwin
It's like you're pitch-tipping

Don't pitch,
don't pitch,
don't pitch,
oh they know what your throwing
And I don't need your reasons
They hit you good.
They hit you good.
They hit you real good
Oh, la la la la la la La la la la la la
Don't, Don't, uh-huh hush, hush darlin'
Hush, hush darlin' Hush, hush
Don't bean them cause it hurts
Hush, hush darlin' Hush, hush darlin'
Hush, hush don't bean them cause it hurts

Very nice, both of you. This is one of the rare times when I know both songs well enough to sing the Met-lyrics out loud. Which gets me weird looks from my co-workers.

I like the line about the media and their steely knives.

Good stuff both of you.

"Hotel California" must be the most parodied song by far in this tourney's history.

"Thriller" is probably in second.

I plead guilty to one of each.

Holy Chicken!

More original song choice, and a better lyrical parody for Holy chicken. Parody lyrics tracked the original nicely, and still got accross the Met version.

Nice job by both, however. Tough choice!

About a half hour remains for mlbaseballtalk to mount a comeback the likes of which has never been seen.

Won't you please give?

That's as many votes as I got last year for my song about Mike Scott Doc Gooden.

Our final is 17-6.

Which is identical to Gooden's W-L record in 1986.

LMAO, no wonder you lost, why not just write a song about Kenny Rogers, Mel Rojas, and Kaz Ishii while you're at it?

Well, it started out being about Gooden. It really did. But then Mike Scott sort of took it over. It was still from Gooden's POV,, so I thought it would be okay. Apparently, some folks liked it.
