Admin's note: This thread contains the commentary for the poll Valadius made for his matchup with Seawolf. I removed the poll to avoid confusion with the new one we're actually voting in. And without further ado, I submit my entry for your approval. Song Used: When I'm Sixty-Four - The Beatles Met Used: Charley Smith Title: Back in '64 “Back in '64” Chico Fernandez didn’t work out Many years ago He was traded to Chicago for this guy Played third base and hit balls goodbye When Charley Smith would step to the plate He’d increase our score Long before HoJo, he was our mojo Back in ‘64 Oooooh He struck out too much Ahhhhh And though he hit home runs He was not too clutch He didn’t stay at Shea for too long Two years were enough Traded to St. Louis for a guy named Ken One year later traded again But with the Mets he led the whole team In making baseballs soar Casey was sleeping, Charley was leaping Back in ‘64 Those two summers he put up some numbers that were quite all right For a bad Mets team On those teams he led He played with all-time greats Cleon, Tug and Ed Casey got hurt and had to retire Westrum took the reins Warren Spahn and Yogi Berra came to play But their skills were wasting away Charley soon left and went to the Cards Didn’t play much more When we first knew him, everything looked grim Back in ‘64

My attitude is this: If Seawolf gets it up within 24 hours of Val's posting, we start the voting at the point of his posting, with a typical 24-hour window. If he doesn't, it's a tragic forfeit.

Did seawolf ever tell Valadius that he was ready? If not, I'm not sure how fair it is to make him forfeit. The deadline in that case would be arbitrary; it would be derived from the time that his opponent unilaterally kicked off the thread.

I think if anyone forfeits an eliminated contestant should be given the chance to jump in with a song. Forfeits suck.

I was going to say, unless Seawolf missed a deadline, is there a way to erase the votes and start again? I don't think it's fair to impose one during a time he is clearly not on the board.

No big deal. It wouldn't be hard to change the title of the thread and avi it. It wouldn't be weird of us to post 30 replies to a contest that never happened.

Well, shit. I suppose I had plenty of time to put something together by now, but this is a surprise. Hey V -- you gotta make sure I'm ready first! I'm upset, but I'm not going down by forfeit, dammit! Give me until tomorrow and I'll post mine when I get back from CT -- trying to do anything during travel season is a bitch, but I'll have a ferry ride tomorrow to compose my ditty. Thanks, Irish, for the vote. Hopefully I will earn it back.

Heart surgery in Connecticut? You're not going up to New Milford, are you? They are associated with the (old timers will remember it as the Columbia)Presbyterian System. I hear some of the doctors prefer the Cardiac Care facilities in New Milford and have started sending their patients up there. Later
