I'll wait until chick is online and then I'll post mine.

We can do it after the weekend if folks think I'm starting too late.

You'll probably get more votes if you wait until Monday. I'd guess that it's best to start these on Monday through Thursday.

I thought voting would end on Monday after posting now, but holychicken just logged on and logged off without posting.

Sorry, I didn' t log out, I just got a phone call.
Well, here goes

Player: Tug Mcgraw
Song: Fire and Screws (to the tune of Fire and Rain http://www.mp3shits.com/download_mp3/James_Taylor_Fire_And_Rain_mp3/764699/) I have no idea why it is called "mp3shits" by the way.

A December morning they let me know you were gone
That heartless trade they made made us dead to you.
I wrote down this song, but I still feel withdrawn
For another player like you we are overdue

You threw fire and you threw screws
You threw in day games that I knew you'd quickly end
You threw better than that Armondo Benitez
But ya gotta help me to believe again.

Won't you look down upon Loop, McGraw
Ya gotta help him gain command
Ya just gotta give him personality.
His body's aching and his option's at hand
He'll end up a setup man any other way.

Oh, you threw fire and you threw screws
You threw in day games that I knew you'd quickly end
You threw better than that Armondo Benitez
But ya gotta help me to believe again.

Been smokin my mind to an easy time with grass not AstroTurf.
Lord knows when the pennat race rolls you will slap your glove around.
Well, I wish for time and a much better ryhme to wish you a proper goodbye
Good times and Irish whiskeys imbibed by the pound

Oh, you threw fire and you threw screws
You threw in day games that I knew you'd quickly end
You threw better than that Armondo Benitez
But ya gotta help me to believe, Mcgraw, one more time again, now.

Help me believe one more time again
There's just few good things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought you'd throw fire and screws, now

Hurt and Likely Bruised

In New York City, I’m a rookie on fire
It’s ‘sixty-three and I’m in All-Star attire
Doo doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo
Met fans, they want me; they tell me with signs
Get hit by fastballs and then trot down the line
Doo doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo

In touch with the ground!
I am Ron Hunt; it’s nothing new
Scent and a sound!
I'm hit and I’m down!
And I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!
Strut down the line!
Act like I’m fine!
I’d howl and I’d whine, but that won’t do
The inning’s alive!
I’m aching inside!
And I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!

I lost my bat speed at just twenty-five
Next year my range went; I had to survive
Doo doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo
I started leaning into pitches inside
I learned to live with all the marks on my hide
Doo doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo-doo, doo doo

I have the knack!
I am Ron Hunt; it’s nothing new
Drilled in the back!
My spine’s out of whack!
And I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!
Watch out for the head!
I’m crippled, half dead!
I’d howl and I’d whine, but that won’t do
It beats riding pine!
The record is mine!
Though I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!

[Instrumental sequence]

(Hurt and likely bruised
Hurt and likely bruised
Hurt and likely bruised

Huh-huh-huh!
Hurt and likely bruised
Hurt and likely bruised
Hurt and likely bruised)

[Furious Drum Fill!!]

Juan Marichal!
He puts me through Hell!
I try not to stain my pants with poo
Drysdale as well!
He just rung my bell!
And I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!
Koufax hurts too (Ow!)
A hard-throwing Jew (Ow!)
I am Ron Hunt it’s nothing new
Take Gibson’s pitch!
He calls me his bitch!
And I’m HURT AND LIKELY BRUISED!

The record is mine…! (Ow!)
(fade)

I like Edgy's lyrics, but I have no idea what song that is.

Nice job too, by the chicken.

Not a big Duran Duran fan, Yancy?

Yancy Street Gang
Nov 04 2005 01:59 PM

I guess not. As I've said, I'm not a big music guy.

Edgy DC
Nov 04 2005 02:02 PM

He's playing rope-a-dope again.

holychicken
Nov 04 2005 02:04 PM

Rope-a-dope?

And for the record, I was NOT Armondo bashing, despite the fact that I spelled his name wrong.

Rope-a-dope. Yancy pretends he's a pop music illiterate, as he storms to the finals and pockets all of our betting money.

Good job, may the best guy win.

So what's the song? I'd like to listen to it before I vote.

need a clue

I agree -- don't recognize the song, although I love the Ron Hunt references.

Edgy DC
Nov 04 2005 02:19 PM

Well, I've opted to look for it.

Nov 04 2005 02:24 PM

It's "Hungry Like The Wolf" right?, great job on both ,my vote is cast.

Edgy DC
Nov 04 2005 02:28 PM

Of course.

You can get the refrain here.

If anybody who can dig up a more complete audio file, I'd be thankful.

Johnny Dickshot
Nov 04 2005 02:33 PM

I didn't catch it till the "howl & wine" part.

Nice job, both!

Yancy Street Gang
Nov 04 2005 02:34 PM

Okay, I do know that song. I've now voted, but I won't say for whom.

As usual, not an easy choice.

I second the idea to extend voting until same time Monday, if it hasn't
already been decided. This place gets dead quick on Friday afternoons
sometimes if nothing metsnewsworthy isn't going down.

Nov 04 2005 03:27 PM

Edgy, if I could post my 45 of your song, I would. . . but alas, the internet has been slackin and cannot yet take LPs as feed yet. How lame.

Good job. Again, may the best chicken win, which gives me an edge. MUAHAHAHHHA

This poll is still active folks. Vote early and vote often.

Closes at 1:46 this afternoon.

I've voted. As usual, I prefer to keep my choice private, but it was an agonizing one. Two great parodies.

Thanks for the game, chicken.

And thanks for Amos Otis.

Oooh...

Are you tipping your hand?

Edgy DC

Mebbe.

It's not the cards in your hand, but how you play 'em.

holychicken
Nov 07 2005 02:32 PM

Yes, good game. I enjoyed this very much.

However, now that I got my rookie season under my belt, I am coming back next year with extra power and speed.

My parodies will be unstoppable!

And enjoy, Amos I will be rooting for you the rest of the way (don't think this means I am going to give you my vote every round) so I can say "well, at least I lost to the champ."
