Holy Crap! I did it AGAIN!

Benjamin Grimm
Oct 28 2005 09:30 AM

Twice in one week. I'm really setting myself up for heartbreak.

Just this morning I got an e-mail from someone (not a player or coach) who was once connected with the Mets and whom many of us remember.

And I invited him to join us here.

So it's twenty questions time again.

To avoid total confusion, I'll only answer the first question that's posed after each of my replies. Since this was a non-player, I have less information about him, so there may be more "I don't know" answers. I don't know whether he was born North or South of the Mason Dixon Line, for example, but I do know whether his name starts with a consonant or a vowel.

Is it Greg Cox?

We're not going to need twenty questions.

YES.

Steve is planning on posting a "memory" of himself on the UMDB to tell everybody just that. Hopefully he'll swing by here, too.

You want me to have three heartbreaks in a single week? How cruel you are!

I may be forgetting something. Do we somehow have Mackey's contact information?

I suppose it would be impolitic to ask Zabriskie, "So Steve, did you ever just want to lean over and slap McCarver across the head?"

Last time I remember thinking of him was seeing a clip of him and Ralph via a bloopers tape. Zabriskie is looking puzzled as Ralph is rambling (I think about Orosco) and you see some ???s pop up in quotation balloons

Steve

As an aside, I never know where to find broadcaster/front office, etc profiles at umdb. can you collect them in a common front page link or am I overlooking something?

What's funny is that I mentioned him in this thread just a few days ago. And suddenly he's in my e-mail box.

There are two ways to find them:

Go to the page for the season in which they were with the Mets:

http://www.ultimatemets.com/metannual.php?ThisYear=1983

Or, if they're in the mug shot gallery, you can get to them from here:

Check out our new registered user. I have confirmation from The Man himself that it's the real guy. He says he doesn't spend much time online, but he'll participate when possible.

Yancy, you're already leading in your parody contest, no need to recruit new guys to throw you an extra vote.

I promised to write "The Ballad of Steve Zabriskie" if he'd vote for me.

Did Steve Z register himself, or did someone save the name for him?

Benjamin Grimm
Oct 30 2005 11:07 AM

He wrote back and told me that he registered himself, but he doesn't know when or if he'll actually post anything here.

Steve -- glad to have you aboard, even as an occasional lurker, but we'd love to see you posting sometime.

We should collect a dozen or so questions for him, for when he's available to post.

That would be dissapointing if he didn't post..

And I'm Mackey Sasser....Cooby post his picture...

Benjamin Grimm

I think we should try to reel Steve in somehow.

Maybe Edgy can close the deal. Steve's e-mail address is probably in his profile. A nice welcoming e-mail to our illustrious guest, explaining the many advantages of CPF participation (we get a discount at Midas Muffler, don't we?) might induce Steve to actually post here.

I think I've proven that I'm not a deal-closer.
