Heath Bell is at it again, having pitched 5.33 scoreless innings for the Licey Tigers. He's allowed 3 hits and struck out 7, walking no one.

Manny Aybar has done quite well in 3 starts. He has a 2.20 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 11 K, 4 BB in 16.33 IP.

Heilman has made 2 starts, and has a 3.72 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 10 K, 5 BB in 9.67 IP.

Anderson Hernandez: 29 AB, .414 AVG/.452 OBP/.483 SLG/.935 OPS with 2 BB, 3 K & 2 SB. He's only had one extra base hit--a triple.

I think Bell will be fine on the major league level as long as he gets consistent work.

Aybar might be working his way back into the bullpen picture, too. I think if the Mets find a good closer -- and there are a lot of them out there -- the rest of the pen will sort itself out.

Hernandez appears to be making up for the hits he didn't get here. I hope he keeps it up.

Heilman made another start and went 5 innings, striking out 4 & walking 1. He allowed 4 hits & 2 earned runs, bringing his ERA down to 3.68 & his WHIP to 1.36.

Bell pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up his first walk and first earned run of the season. His line: .67 IP, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 H, 1 ER.

Hernandez, apparently jinxed by smg58, only went 1-8 with a single and a SB.

That's one quiet .300 hitting by Hernandez. An isolated slugging of .025? What's HoJo been teaching down there?

Could be he's teaching him to hit the ball on the ground to take advantage of his speed. Could be a whole number of other things, too. It is an advantage when a player in Winter Ball is being worked with by one of the coaches in his organization. It gives the player a head start on Spring Training.

And my math skilz have failed me. That should be .031.

His isolated OBP rate of .036 is also troublesome, though.

That Homer Bush was a uselful player, but only in seasons he hit .320.

Don't want to draw too many conclusions from the sample size, thouogh.

Exactly. My response was pure speculation. We have no way of knowing what Hojo is teaching him - if anything specific.

Well, Hernandez's IsoP is only 0.093 for his minor league career, so it's not that shocking . . .

The only time his SLG topped .400 was last year and that was largely due to 273 AA at bats where he slugged .462. After he got promoted to AAA, he continued to show good power for maybe a month, then started to revert.

All that being said, he was young for his age at every level and held his own. Since he's only 22, he might develop some power.

HoJo apparently put the fear of God into Hernandez, who hit his first dinger of the off-season. That's 3 extra base hits now, for those of you counting at home.
