Hall of Fame Kwiz
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:06 PM |
I started my ongoing project of tabulating which Mets are in which in smal-time Halls of Fame.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 03 2005 12:07 PM |
Yogi Berra?
Diamond Dad Nov 03 2005 12:09 PM Italian-American Hall of Fame? |
Didn't know there was an Italian-American Hall of Fame. Where is it? Sounds like a nice Crane Pool group outing!
Johnny Dickshot Nov 03 2005 12:09 PM |
Bobby Valentine
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:16 PM |
Stop asking and start answering with confidence! Yogi Berra is one. Joe Torre is two. Lee Mazzilli is not three.
Answers. Not questions. Bobby Valentine isn't Italian. He's Italian-American. The way things are going, he'll soon be Italian-American-Japanese. Nonetheless he's right. But, you too, answer with confidence. That's three.
Too late on the former. Wrong on the latter. Cool that JD answered Johnny and Bobby while he's posting as Johnny Dickshot at the level of Bobby Valentine.
Valadius Nov 03 2005 12:21 PM |
Jim Fregosi?
Benjamin Grimm Nov 03 2005 12:24 PM |
I know he's not a Met, but I'm wondering if Roy Campanella is in there. Or does his black mother keep him from being seen as Italian-American?
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:29 PM |
Stop asking! Yes. Jim Fregosi. One more. Campy was inducted in 1990, three years before he died.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 03 2005 12:33 PM |
Frank Viola!
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:35 PM |
That's the way to answer!
Valadius Nov 03 2005 12:35 PM |
I was just gonna say that!
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:38 PM |
So, of six Met Hall of Famers, three both played for and managed the team, one (Fregosi) interviewed and one made it far in interviewing to be manager.
metirish Nov 03 2005 12:43 PM |
I think Franco will be a Mets coach in a few years, in the system of course, maybe in Brooklyn to start and in perhaps five years he'll be coaching with the big club.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 12:59 PM |
No Mets were found in the Greek-American Sports Hall of Fame.

One Met is enshrined in the Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 03 2005 01:07 PM |
Joe Grzenda!
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 01:09 PM |
No!
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 01:10 PM |
The most Polish names I can come up with off the all-time roster are Joe Orsulak and Tom Paciorek.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 01:13 PM |
Arre those your answers?
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 01:20 PM |
ARGH! Yes.
metirish Nov 03 2005 01:24 PM |
I found the answers and one I would never have guessed.......not exactly what you might expect from a Polish name...
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 01:33 PM |
Aha! Rafael Santana!
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 01:36 PM |
MetsIrish: Big Fat Cheater.
metirish Nov 03 2005 01:40 PM |

If only for just one game, Bob Mlicki should be in the Polish-American Mets Hall of Fame. Later
metirish Nov 03 2005 01:59 PM |
You mean Dave Mlicki 62, and for that game pitched against the MFY's I agree.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 02:18 PM |
Still looking for one more pole.
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 02:26 PM |
If you're looking for Dick Pole, you won't find him here.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 02:28 PM |
One more Polish-American guy, to clarify.
Diamond Dad Nov 03 2005 02:31 PM Never would have guessed |
OK, I cheated, so I won't post the answer -- but Never -- not in a million, billion years -- would I have gotten that one. not even if you gave me a list of all the players on the mets in history and I went down the list, one by one. Never. No way.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 03 2005 02:38 PM |
I guess that means it's not Phil Mankowski.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 02:38 PM |
Diamond Dad: Big fat cheater.
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 02:41 PM |
That's a lot of Mets.
Johnny Dickshot Nov 03 2005 02:41 PM |
Grover Powell!
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 02:42 PM |
That's two elimnated.
Edgy DC Nov 03 2005 02:44 PM |
Hint: In the original "Gimme a Met" thread, he was the roadie who picked out groupies for a famous metal band's debauchery.
seawolf17 Nov 03 2005 02:49 PM |
And you can delete all the black and Latin guys from that list, along with anyone else who has any kind of "Z" or weird consonant combination, because I'm assuming his name doesn't "sound Polish."
Willets Point Nov 03 2005 02:51 PM |
Wally Whitehurst.
ScarletKnight41 Nov 03 2005 03:43 PM |
D-Dad is NOT fat!
metirish Nov 03 2005 08:21 PM |
I can't believe you guys haven't got this player yet, yeah so I cheated earlier today and found his name but still....a crate of schaefer to the person that gets him.

Valadius Nov 03 2005 11:03 PM |
They all played for the Yankees.
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 05:50 AM |
Did you do peaky-peaky, too?
Benjamin Grimm Nov 04 2005 05:58 AM |
Should we go to Twenty Questions?
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 06:04 AM |
Yes.
MFS62 Nov 04 2005 06:05 AM |
If we can use some of the weird ancestral associations some athletes use to get on Olympic teams, then Ron Swoboda might also be in the Chinese-American Baseball Hall Of Fame. I remember that his grandmother (when she was widowed) got a job in a Chinese Restaurant and later married the owner. So Ron had a Chinese grandfather.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 04 2005 06:18 AM |
Is he a pitcher?
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 06:38 AM |
1) Yes, he is a pitcher.
Valadius Nov 04 2005 07:10 AM |
Actually, no, I don't know who it is. And there's 92 Mets who played for the Yankees as well, so that doesn't help too much.
Benjamin Grimm Nov 04 2005 07:12 AM |
Did he make his Mets debut before the beginning of the 1986 season?

4) No, it's not Turk Wendell. But he may be in the Turkish-American Sports Hall of Fame.
Johnny Dickshot Nov 04 2005 08:45 AM |
Wasting questions, going for the big score:
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 11:28 AM |
5) No, it's not Mike Stanton. You don't have very high standards for what makes a quality Polish-American athlete, do you?
Benjamin Grimm Nov 04 2005 11:41 AM |
Did he make his Mets debut before the start of the 1995 season?
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 11:52 AM |

Does Armando Benitez have the same thing in common with anonymous Polish-American as Friend and Bragg?
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 12:55 PM |
9) Not quite but kind of.

Thanks to Valadius' hint, now let's get rid of the non-Yanks from Yancy's list:
Lloyd's Australian, Heredia's Latin, so they're out. Stanton's out because he was guessed. Guetterman, Anderson, Burke, Watson, and Weathers haven't really been around long enough to be in any kind of HoF, which leaves Tanana and Gibson. Gibson's done a lot of coaching around LI, but I guess my guess is going to be Frank Tanana.

Benjamin Grimm Nov 04 2005 03:19 PM |
David Cone will probably join the group at some point.
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 03:21 PM |
A point that hasn't yet come to pass.
Valadius Nov 04 2005 05:02 PM |
OOH!
Edgy DC Nov 04 2005 09:08 PM |
