Interesting observation

In the morning sometimes when I'm logged on to the admin pages I notice
something a little odd. There is a page that lists who's online and what sec-
tion of the forum their in and their ip address. Pretty boring stuff, except
some mornings something weird is going on. Today there was like nine
guests logged on in addition to two or three regulars viewing nine different
areas of the board and all with the same ip address? A simple whois lookup
of the ip address (which btw was 66.249.65.167) shows that address pointing
to Google in CA. Other mornings I've found the same thing pointing to Micro-
soft in WA. Anyone want to speculate what's going on there? I suppose it
could be a trail of some kind of mechanical info gathering of web info or
something for search engine purposes. Other than that I find it a little peculiar.

It's gotta be The Man, keeping tabs on us.

That, or it's the terrorists.

There are a lot of folks on the West Coast who like the Mets?

I dunno.

I noticed one day last weekend that I was logged in all alone, with 11 guests.

I did a "Who's Online" click to find that they were all looking at weird, old stuff like In Game Threads and PoTG's.

What's a google spider?

A spider is a program that crawls across the web (hence the name) following links from one page to another. Google and the other search engines use spiders to gather the URL's for their indexes.

Yeah, Google Spiders are all over the place. I'm betting you could Google almost all of the threads on the CPF.

And yet a Google search for "Crane Pool Forum" still ranks the dead EZBOARD version as #1.

Well, the old EZBoard address has in existnce much longer than this one has. It's literally crawling with spiders. Give us another year or two and our new home will be completely infested too.
