IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets

They lost the first game in '86/NLCS too.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 20 2011 12:25 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
The others may not actually be there, but you can bet your bippy they'll be announced as if they were.
Ceetar Apr 20 2011 12:28 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |

They do this across baseball. But only the teams care about the 'sold' over the 'in attendance'. Why can't they give us both?
Gwreck Apr 20 2011 12:31 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Actual turnstile attendance is considered by MLB as something they don't want the public or media to have, particularly to contrast with paid attendance figures.
Benjamin Grimm Apr 20 2011 12:37 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Yeah. Publishing "No-show" statistics could be very embarrassing at time.
Frayed Knot Apr 20 2011 12:39 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Years ago they separated the "Paid" and "actual" attendance because it mattered as to how the money was divided. And to further complicate things the AL figured their split with the visiting team based on tickets sold vs the NL which did so on bodies in attendance.
Ceetar Apr 20 2011 12:42 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Because we all really think Citi Field had 27k last night and that it wasn't embarrassing? And fans aren't taking pictures of all the emptiness and posting it to Twitter and blogs? It's silly. I understand MLBs all about the secrecy and the don't embed our clips or dare to show them elsewhere OMG! but they're not fooling anyone. Ahh. good info Frayed Knot. I wonder if it's something that didn't exist to the extent it does today? Now everyone's a scalper, so lots more tickets go unsold. Also the value of said ticket has made it more of a commodity.
Frayed Knot Apr 20 2011 12:45 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
I think a larger pct of tickets now-a-days are sold via season tickets or partial season packages which could contribute to a gap between sold and used.
Edgy DC Apr 20 2011 12:47 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Wait. I'm not a scalper. Are all you people scalpers? Ick.
Gwreck Apr 20 2011 12:48 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
There's still a difference between widespread knowledge that "paid attendance does not equal actual attendance" and publishing cold, hard statistics that prove it.

my ticket is fresh from Stubhub. paid $15. It's worth 96*/120/144/168 *I think today's value anyway. I haven't actually sold a ticket in a while since I haven't really bought in bulk though.

I mean it sucks on so many levels bunting but Jesus you have Thole up there and I trust him to work the count and get a hit even , on this team I want Thole or Murphy up there with a bat looking for a hit......

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 20 2011 08:45 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
In a way, it's kind of amazing, and a morbid reason to watch-- how can the Mets defy the run-scoring odds tonight? A fly out in the first, not bunting in the ninth, bunting successfully earlier... hell, even a good slide from Pagan in the eighth, and at least one run scores. In a way... this final score is a sort of turd-shaped miracle.
bmfc1 Apr 20 2011 09:08 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
If a slow guy was at first, I still wouldn't agree but I would understand more. You have one of the best basestealers in the game at 1st and a batter that can slap the ball so hit and run or steal but don't give up one of your 3 precious outs. And why did Turner bat in the 8th instead of Hairston?
Edgy DC Apr 20 2011 09:13 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
I assume they went for the greater likelihood of a run-scoring contact out.
Ceetar Apr 20 2011 09:30 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
The astros dressed up the win on a silver platter, and the Mets smacked it onto the floor like a petulant child.
Gwreck Apr 20 2011 09:35 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
Let's count down the unfuckingbelievable moments from the game tonight:
Ceetar Apr 20 2011 09:42 PM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
They tried to force things, I'm not sure Pagan's attempted advance was _that_ horrible, and had it been the only blunder of the day maybe you live with it. I'd just finished thinking it was really heads up of him for him to dash home on the preceding pitch when the ball got away on the foul tip, in case it wasn't actually a foul tip.' Other than the bunt stupidity, i'm unsure if I should be annoyed at Reyes. He's supposed to be well off the bag and ready to dash to second, with or without Thole bunting. It was a pretty damn quick bunt out and i'm not sure Reyes even had time to read that it was in the air and hesitate and get back. I obviously didn't see any replays though.

This game hurt me in my brain/heart/cock/anus.
Frayed Knot Apr 21 2011 07:12 AM Re: IGT 4/20/11 Astros @ Mets |
The problem wasn't that Reyes was too far off the base, it was that, in seeing the 1B & P in front of him for the bunt, he never considered that the 2Bman might be sneaking in behind him and therefore didn't show any urgency to get back until he saw a throw coming his way at which point it was too late.

Honestly the game itself wasn't that bad as a single entity, it was as a subset of a whole miserable season so far that made it hurt.
