Madness, am I reading this correctly, this deal takes effect in 2016 for $19 million. Sure he's a good player but wtf would a team do this deal?

There's also a mutual option for 2021 worth up to $20 million with a $4 million buyout. I think this makes it all but official that they aren't signing Fielder long-term, which could mean that they are going for broke this year. It's too bad they sold what was left of their farm for Greinke because I'm betting they could use a Reyes rental this season.

Don't worry about the Brewers. He'll finish that contract as a Yankee.

Calculated gamble that it's cheaper now to lock up those extra 5 years than it will be come the end of the 2015 season. Note that I don't think it's a good gamble.

Well, now it's the Braun precedent, and it may inform a Zimmerman conttract and a Wright contract.
