We're really up against it with Timmy opposing us, and I'm sure the Mets know it, and know they kicked their opportunity to win several times last night.

Lose tonight, and we're in some kind of rut.

I'm sorry, but Lincecum's fastball doesn't have nearly enough movement to explain (or forgive) taking so many of them over the plate for strike three.

At least Murphy put up a decent at bat. Before striking out.

Murphy did his job as well as he could, extended his at-bat until Lincecum hit 127 pitches.

We get a one inning crack at a non-All Star in between Lincecum and Wilson.

Re: Giants @ Mets I.G.T. 5/4/2011

Giants fans in attendance even more douchier than last night. I've always percieved that many, in contrast to what happened with the Dodgers, former New York Giants fans (and their issue) stuck with the team even as they played in another city. That combined with the bandwagon effect (plus I'm sure some fans choosing to visit NY from SF) contributed to what seemed like the Mets fans being outnumbered.

The 2-6-2 double play was cool, and I was glad to see Capuano have a good outing. Other than that...

Re: Giants @ Mets I.G.T. 5/4/2011

It wouldn't have been as stark had the Mets given us anything to cheer for. I kinda wonder how many of those "Giants" fans were Mets fans recently who've decided to 'embrace the roots' or something as an excuse to jump on a bandwagon.

Some observations without the benefit of replays.

It looked like the strike zone was huge and they were calling every flinch a swing.

On Ike's single Beltran paused like it was a liner, but it looked like a clear grounder to me that he should've been running on, and surely would've scored. He stepped back to 2B at first.

I was kinda hoping for a squeeze with Harris in the 6th. he'd already hit two double play balls and at least at that point in the game Timmy wasn't really fooling anybody, both real hitters in the lineup that inning saw the ball and hit the ball so I think Harris probably could've gotten a bunt down the 1B line..

Strike zone was big - he was calling high strikes. Didn't look like Ike swung at the low, inside strike three.

Nah, Beltran had to hold up. Shortstop was behind the bag and it wasn't clear whether he could have caught it or not.

I had that thought myself. Or, hell, maybe he could have even given the drag bunt/sorta squeeze a whirl-- he's sure as hell not doing the team any favors swinging the bat.

The other thing about Wilson: he's actually a half-decent guy off-the-field.

The Jints are staying at BetterHalfer's workplace this week; Wilson and Posey (she thinks) have been sweethearts to the hotel/restaurant staff, while Huff and Cody Ross (are you surprised?) have stood out as entitlement-oozing, defensive pricks.

Wilson's also a semi-regular at my cousin's restaurant in SF, and-- beard aside-- is a relaxed, unassuming customer who "was raised right" (says cousin Joe, who also recommends Zito).

Nice profile on the actual guy behind the beard in SI over the winter here.

Nearly three months later Wilson hasn't come off his Series high. "You know what it's like?" he says, theatrically stroking the beard. "You're 12 years old. Everything is great. It's Friday. The school bell just rang. You have no responsibilities. You get to have a sleepover. All you want to do is jump up and down and scream. You know that feeling? Now make it times a billion. That's winning the World Series."

While a full-on young-dude beard is a BIT more commonplace than it used to be, it's more "irritating BillyBurg/SoCal hipster" than it is "douche," near as I can tell.
