I predicted a 5-2 win in my post about the Mets fans at the Giants game last night. I'm thinking 7 innings for Pelfrey, 2 runs score on a walk-hit-double. Izzy, K-Rod, game. Really I just want a mostly stressfree win and move on to the Dodgers.

Hu batting second since he's playing second. Please tell me Terry just found an old lineup card on the dugout floor or something. I'm having jerry flashbacks.

Sure but a few things:

1) Neither has Hairston.
2) Only one guy can bat eighth.
3) He's younger, and if you want to invest in a guy's future, you might want to put him somewhere where he can succeed. He's on the verge of being jettisoned as it is. Batting Duda second helped him last year, didn't it?
4) We all lamented the failures of the bottom of the lineup last night. Perhaps this is a strategic effort by Jerryterry to break up the suckers.

I don't want him second either, but I'm happy to see him get a start before he's flushed away. It's not like I'll miss Turner.

Day games oft lead to strange lineup configurations.

I know, but Jerry's the second-baseman-bats-second/first-baseman-bats-cleanup guy, whereas Willie would have Ike batting 7th or 8th, until he "earns" his way northward on the lineup card.

Willie did the second baseman bats second thing, too (Matsui/Cairo). And Ike, ideally, shouldn't be batting sixth.

If you believe that AndyHandy and Argenis and Alex Cora should never ever have batted higher than 7th, then yes, Jerry did.

And for singular moments of what the fuck is up with that lineup, Catalanotto in the four-hole is tough to trump. Wasn't that an extension on the second baseman bats second theme?

I can imagine a 1970 infieled of 18 letters with Foy/Weis/Foli/Shamsky. I don't know if that ever happened but there's a good chance it did. I do know Cleon Jones didn't play any first that season, which would have given them a chance at 16.

The record for fewest letters in a starting Mets infield is... 18! Set by Davis-Hu-Wright-Reyes on April 9, 2011.

The previous record was 19, set by Hodges-Hunt-Neal-Moran four times in 1963, and tied by Cook-Hunt-Kanehl-Moran that same year, and by Smith-Samuel-Hunt-Moran in 1964.

We saw some 20's in 2010, with Davis-Cora-Wright-Reyes.

The lengthiest-named starting infield? 36 letters, on July 11 and July 19, 1971. Clendenon-Martinez-Aspromonte-Harrelson.

Maybe he's working from a set of precision-improving quotas-- throw 10 pitches to a struggling middle infielder, walk a number 8 hitter, give up a hit to a terrible-hitting pitcher-- of which we're unaware, and so he's kicking more ass than we could ever know. Did you ever think about that, smartypants?
