IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Mr. Eating Clubs vs. Mr. Innings-Eater. Can we make it an actual winning streak? Keep this hitting/airtight bullpen thing happening? Keep on dancing to the rock and roll... on Saturday night, Saturday night?

I'm blaming that run on the combined negative mojo of Guys! and George Foster. (Really, man-- your shitty play was due to the Mets' "not being ready to win?" Go eat your mate or something.)

I watch about as many games on SNY as the next person. Can someone explain to me what exactly the problem with Burkhardt is? (No, seriously. I don't get what people have against him).

Crisis can lead folks to attack within.

Meanwise, George Foster looks like $1,000,000.

He's a 1982 Met. There are 2002 Mets who aren't in shape that good.

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

The timing/length of the in-game pieces is suspect, and there's often an inordinate amount of praise for opposing players who are doing well during a particular series. Also, his understanding of the game can be poor and almost ostentatiously (willfully?) "jock"y.

On another note, Mike O'Connor comes to the plate like he's made out of 3-foot-long 2x4s and C-clamps.

I don't see his understanding as poor. I agree he praises opposing teams' players too much but it would be disingenuous to call Burkhardt out on that without also calling Darling out for the same thing.

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Talk about praising the opposition. Listen to the radio crew. I don't get a lack of understanding of the game, either. I mean, Gary and Ron are sitting here this inning scratching their heads over the notion of Hu being removed from the roster. Who's going to be the backup shortstop? Who's going to provide late inning defense?

Maybe the guy who they replace him with. Back to you, guys.

Here's the point where the go with the lefty to face Davis-Pridie-Thole, but you know Hairston will bat for Pridie. Maybe they pinch-hit for Thole, too.

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

The coach is named Chip and he turns his head
But he doesn't say a word
Terry sits on the pine and he flashes the sign
And meaning behind is a great big turd
And Ashie doesn't understand it
He always says "Let the batter bat"
And he can see... no reasons
Cuz there are... no reasons
What reasons do you need for that?

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

So other than the injured starter, two bad base-running plays by Reyes, the two base-running goofs by Paulino, and a pace of play which rivals plate tectonics, it was a pretty good game.

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Have to say, I don't much appreciate Gary going on about Mets pitchers giving up a .400 OBP to number-eight hitters without at least adding on that it's in part coming from on high, with them pitching around eighties or outright walking them with runners on base.

Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Yeah, IWs really need to be taken out when considering OBAs.
Several version of 'Runs Created' do treat regular walks and IWs separately.

May 07 2011 08:55 PM
Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Speaking of walks, the golden grace of this game has to be all the different Mets grinding them out. Mature way to win. It was 4-2, but it might have just as easily been 8-2 with an odd break or two.

Frayed Knot
May 07 2011 08:58 PM
Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?

Could have been 8-2 the other way considering all the runners the Dodgers stranded - particularly early.
Game might have set a record for foul balls.
