IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas?
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 06 2011 09:19 PM |
Mr. Eating Clubs vs. Mr. Innings-Eater. Can we make it an actual winning streak? Keep this hitting/airtight bullpen thing happening? Keep on dancing to the rock and roll... on Saturday night, Saturday night?

I suspect Gee will get all the work he wants this season.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 07 2011 06:56 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
I'm blaming that run on the combined negative mojo of Guys! and George Foster. (Really, man-- your shitty play was due to the Mets' "not being ready to win?" Go eat your mate or something.)

I watch about as many games on SNY as the next person. Can someone explain to me what exactly the problem with Burkhardt is? (No, seriously. I don't get what people have against him).

Crisis can lead folks to attack within.

George Foster did seem at all like the moody ballplayer I remember

Seems like we went to the pen prematurely.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 07 2011 07:07 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
The timing/length of the in-game pieces is suspect, and there's often an inordinate amount of praise for opposing players who are doing well during a particular series. Also, his understanding of the game can be poor and almost ostentatiously (willfully?) "jock"y.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 07 2011 07:14 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
"This episode of 'Willie Harris: Met Killer' is brought to you by Revlon. Revlon, for when you need to be caught looking... good."
|
Gwreck May 07 2011 07:16 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
|
I don't see his understanding as poor. I agree he praises opposing teams' players too much but it would be disingenuous to call Burkhardt out on that without also calling Darling out for the same thing.
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 07:17 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Talk about praising the opposition. Listen to the radio crew. I don't get a lack of understanding of the game, either. I mean, Gary and Ron are sitting here this inning scratching their heads over the notion of Hu being removed from the roster. Who's going to be the backup shortstop? Who's going to provide late inning defense?
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 07:22 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Did Gary just call Jerry Stiller "George Costanza"?
|
Gwreck May 07 2011 07:25 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Yep. I am of the mind that Seinfeld is one of the most wildly overrated television shows of all time but even I know that's not right.

Igarashi sure seems to be throwing with confidence.

Edgy DC May 07 2011 07:34 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Well he got the first two guys (three, with the error) with efficiencey. It took me two or three tries to submit that post, and now he's walked the seven and eight hitters.
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 07:35 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Surprised to see him stay in and face Sands.
|
metirish May 07 2011 07:38 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
hilarious , the cameras zoom in on Chip Hale who looks like he's having the worst day ever, head shaking the lot , then he turns around and starts jawing to Igarashi's interpreter.

Jerry Sands: No. Soup. For. You.

Jerry Stiller: embarrassing. Extremely embarrassing.
|
Frayed Knot May 07 2011 07:44 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Geez, has the pacing of these last two games been slow enough?
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 07:48 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Jerry Stiller: No more embarassing than a typical day at Wrigley. (As if that's our goal.)
|
Gwreck May 07 2011 07:50 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
If it can be proven that Burkhardt is responsible for the Stiller interview, I am fine with him being fired immediately.

Just tuned in (via MLB app on my phone as my fucking television provider doesn't carry WPIX and the Mets are blacked out on MLB Extra Innings).

Edgy DC May 07 2011 08:04 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Here's the point where the go with the lefty to face Davis-Pridie-Thole, but you know Hairston will bat for Pridie. Maybe they pinch-hit for Thole, too.
|
Ashie62 May 07 2011 08:06 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
No pinch hit
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 08:09 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Or... let Pridie bat and magic happen.

Written by Lennon-McCartney and they can't bunt.

Wow, Frankie wasn't scary tonight. No acclerated heart rate or tightness in my temple.
|
Frayed Knot May 07 2011 08:32 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
So other than the injured starter, two bad base-running plays by Reyes, the two base-running goofs by Paulino, and a pace of play which rivals plate tectonics, it was a pretty good game.
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 08:34 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Have to say, I don't much appreciate Gary going on about Mets pitchers giving up a .400 OBP to number-eight hitters without at least adding on that it's in part coming from on high, with them pitching around eighties or outright walking them with runners on base.
|
Frayed Knot May 07 2011 08:38 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Yeah, IWs really need to be taken out when considering OBAs.
|
Edgy DC May 07 2011 08:55 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Speaking of walks, the golden grace of this game has to be all the different Mets grinding them out. Mature way to win. It was 4-2, but it might have just as easily been 8-2 with an odd break or two.
|
Frayed Knot May 07 2011 08:58 PM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
Could have been 8-2 the other way considering all the runners the Dodgers stranded - particularly early.
|
MFS62 May 08 2011 08:27 AM Re: IGT, 5/7: Una Vez Mas? |
I can't get the thought out of my head that if Pelfrey had Dillon Gee's cojones, he'd be a 20 game winner.
