Weather report sucks, looks like a rainout.
|
bmfc1 May 11 2011 09:05 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> 11-5-11 |
Rained out.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 11 2011 09:09 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> 11-5-11 |
And so it is rained out, rescheduled for 3 pm Thursday.

Gives Ike a day to heal, I guess.

Whacky lineup:
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 09:51 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
bench is strong though. Martinez! Wright!
|
Edgy DC May 12 2011 09:56 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Predicting a good game for Harris, adapting to his infield perspective and getting a message from smelling Martinez's farts.

Gwreck May 12 2011 09:58 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |

Wouldn't Harris be in greater danger from Angel Pagan's return? There's zero reason to keep Harris over Pridie when Pagan returns.

TransMonk May 12 2011 10:06 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
I feel a good game coming on from the B-Team today. A grand slam maybe...

G-Fafif May 12 2011 10:09 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Just crazy enough to work.

There are a lot of farts in the clubhouse which might give Willie pause.
|
Gwreck May 12 2011 10:19 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |

Indeed. How many days off does David Wright really need? He got his day off yesterday.
|
TheOldMole May 12 2011 10:23 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
The whole point was to give him two -- a game followed by an off day. This is the same only backwards.
|
Gwreck May 12 2011 10:33 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
I understand the process. My questioning is regarding the need for same.

TransMonk May 12 2011 10:40 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
I would hope that he is at least available to pinch hit.
|
Fman99 May 12 2011 10:41 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
I predict Willie Harris will hit 9 home runs and impregnate your sister today. Just. You. Wait.
|
G-Fafif May 12 2011 11:02 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |

Better chance of the latter, and I'll spot you seven home runs.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 12 2011 11:54 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Game already delayed due to weather, with more bad shit forecast, raising the possibility that we'll have to fly out to Denver to determine [crossout:18p010dg]our[/crossout:18p010dg] their playoff seeding at the end of the year.
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 11:56 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
mutual off day on May 23rd I believe, Middle of a roadtrip for the Mets, where they fly from NY to Chicago. Probably not a horrible day, although the Sunday game is 8pm right? so it'd be a rough couple of days sleepwise.
|
bmfc1 May 12 2011 12:09 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Ceetar--good work. May 22 is a day game. What's the rule about a team playing for consecutive games? Is it 15 is the most w/o approval of the union.
|
Edgy DC May 12 2011 12:14 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
I predict a lot of cardplaying today.

Charlie Samuels could have cashed a lot of checks today.
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 12:20 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
|
I skipped 8/8 because it's mid homestand for the Mets. yeah, day game 5/22. my printout is a little old and I kinda assumed. neither Sunday Subway Series Stint is on eSpn. That'd probably be the day then, get it over with if they can. I dunno about the consecutive games though, that might be rough. (21 in 20 days for the Rockies starting tomorrow if they played that day)

Ashie62 May 12 2011 12:44 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Unless Colorado needs it there is little chance this will be made up.
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 12:46 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |

Revenue. and if they make it up the 23rd Ike would still miss it. There's certainly a fair shot that neither team needs it, but the worst case would be playing it 9/29 after the season.

Care to wager on that?

Frayed Knot May 12 2011 01:13 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |

More than 19 consecutive dates requires player permission. And unless all sides find the game virtually impossible to make-up it almost certainly will be at some point. Regardless of whether or not it matters in playoff implications or seeding, MLB doesn't like to give the impression that regular season games are simply disposable to the point where no attempt will be made even though there's still the better part of four months to go in the season.
|
Edgy DC May 12 2011 01:16 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
If the challenge seems more problematic these days, it is. Because 56% of games are now played in cities where the visiting team won't be returning to the rest of the regular season.
|
Frayed Knot May 12 2011 01:26 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
|
Yup! That's one of the side issues which cropped up after you go from most teams dividing their 162 over 11 opponents (pre-1993) to spreading them out over 20 different foes in the post-expansion, multi-divisions, inter-league playing days.
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 01:29 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Imagine how it'd be if my proposal of interleague all the time got some love?

The Mets are home 8/8. I should know - I have tickets to that game.
|
Ceetar May 12 2011 02:02 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
meant 8/18. The _Rockies_ are in the middle of a homestand then though.

Willie Harris in the lineup and hitting second is obviously the key.

One from the right and one from the left. Willie Harris on base for each of them.

I wonder how many other people there are besides Seth Smith whose first and last names end with TH.

Guess what -- now I'm wondering about it too.

Other TH first names I thought of while being nervous in that inning:

Nice if Izzy to dance out of things there, but what he did was to bring CarGo and Tulo around again in the 9th

In addition to Seth Smith, I found Keith Smith and Keith Smith.

smg58 May 12 2011 07:45 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
A nice win. I think it's clear that Beltran is all the way back with the bat, and from the small bits I've seen of the games he looks to be running better now than he was in April.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 12 2011 07:57 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
Geez, we absolutely stole that one. No Ike, no David, getaway rubbergame day, Ubaldo Jiminez, Niese not on top of his game, Bay hitting cleanup, 1st & 2nd none out in the 8th with a 2-run lead, and none of it mattered.
|
Edgy DC May 12 2011 08:30 PM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
|
Yeah, I didn't even know this was happenin'. Harris had the game I knew he had in him, and Beltran set fire to the whole place. Thing is, I'm cahnfident the offense can take hold like this. They're getting more than their share of walks (second in the NL last I checked, maybe first after today's game), and that's a load of water no damn can hold back. I know ynagaytyawyw, but... go Mets!
|
Frayed Knot May 13 2011 07:09 AM Re: Get Out of Denver (Alive) <iGt> May 12 |
|
Any time you chalk up nine runs on just six hits you're getting some breaks along the way. Yesterday those breaks came in the form of walks - nine altogether including six by Ubaldo who was just turrible. Stuff like a lead-off walk to Niese in one inning and later on the two-out/two-on walk to Niese which led to Reyes's 2 RBI single were absolute gifts.
He's certainly trotting better.

That's certainly the best way to keep those knees fresh.
