He's getting blown onto the disabled list is my guess.

My sources are telling me he asked out of the game , Alderson to give an in game interview in the third inning.

Jesus Christ I'm taking the mikey but apparently just like Posada Wright has back problems .....

At some level it's a relief.
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 01:52 PM Re: Wright not in Lineup |
Wright backed (npi) out of an interview with Lupica on ESPN Radio. I just assumed it was good sense.

Not like he had been hitting much recently.

Oh sure but hate going without your No. 3 and 5 hitters, especially when they are replaced with Muffy and Willie Harris.
|
Edgy DC May 16 2011 01:57 PM Re: Wright not in Lineup |
Lutz, hasn't played since 4/21. So if it's a DL trip, maybe they call up Evans and move Murphy to third. Either that or Russ Adams or some crazy stab in the dark like that.
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:02 PM Re: Wright not in Lineup |
Sandy live on SNY, and I doubt it's for an update on Mejia and Young (though he's giving that right now).
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:03 PM Re: Wright not in Lineup |
Had Wright examined. MRI on the back. Tentative diagnosis stress fracture lower back. Getting second opinion. Hospital Special Surgery. Possible DL two weeks, won't know til tomorrow AM.
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:03 PM Re: Wright not in Lineup |
Still available tonight, though obviously not in lineup. Dates back to Carlos Lee play in April.

Mets "initiative" to get back checked. Not David's. "David himself was suprised" by diagnosis.

Good on Sandy.
Real shame about Lutz. This seems like the perfect opportunity to road-test him at the major-league level-- more pressure than September, not the ridiculously focused attention of New York in a playoff race. Also... surrounded by familiar faces.

Terry talking about guy coming in to help pick up the pieces, so apparently DL is fait accompli.

G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:20 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
Terry agrees the injury bug feels like '99 Angels (per Gary Cohen question), which sounded surprising, as it lacks the Collins positivity. Took a nice little dig at Mo Vaughn ("my $80 million first baseman").
|
metirish May 16 2011 02:20 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
My sources are telling me that Collins has Bay in his office , must be asking him to pick it up.

I noticed that, too. Diagnosing through the radio much simpler than MRIs.

G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:23 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
Wright refusing to use this as an excuse for his crummy hitting -- both admirable and worrisome (both for indicating he had no excuse for sucking and that he's self-delusional).
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 16 2011 02:23 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
You wonder if he'll be wildly enthusiastic about traction.
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:24 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
DW caught himself saying "they're" as in "they're gonna have to go out there" against Fish and changed it to "we".
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:25 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
Terry had said he's not likely to use Murphy at third since he hasn't played there in the majors (didn't stop him from putting him at second). Willie tonight because of numbers against Johnson. Otherwise, he'll make it up as he goes along.

|
TransMonk May 16 2011 02:27 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
I can't hear what Terry sounds like giving these responses, but from what I can gather reading Greg's play-by-play, he sounds like a flushing toilet.
|
G-Fafif May 16 2011 02:28 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
Joel Sherman says Wright's back is aching from carrying this sad franchise all by himself. Jon Heyman says a real captain like Jeter wouldn't have allowed this to happen. Ian O'Connor indicates this lets Posada off the hook.
|
Edgy DC May 16 2011 02:32 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |

Fielding an overmatched lineup and struggling is one of the worser things in baseball. But sacking up and winning without your best players is one of the better things. Let's go, Mets!

batmagadanleadoff May 16 2011 03:28 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
I just reviewed the Wright/Lee play. If it's Wright's third inning tag-out of Carlos Lee in the top of the third on April 19th, then there was no collision, and Lee never landed on Wright. Wright dove at a sliding Lee from behind and tagged him before Lee tagged third. But on the dive, you could clearly see Wright's head snap and, without hitting the dirt, bounce up and down rather violently two or three times.

Wright's head snapped back. And to the right. Back. And to the right. I'll try and post some stills. Although one would assume that the play in question should get aired tonight.

Here are some stills of the Lee/Wright play, now rendered obsolete by the MLB video posted above. The video captures Wright's bobble head better than the pics below. But still.... (Get it? Still? But still ....)

Unfortunately, right now the roster has more players with experience at third than at first. And Wright might still be back before Davis.

Speaking of David, has anyone heard anything about how his recovery is coming along?
|
TransMonk Jun 15 2011 02:39 PM Re: David Wright's Broken Back |
He'll be re-examined on June 24. If he is all healed, it will still most likely be at least 3 weeks of rehab before he is back with the big club.

I suspect once Ike takes the boot off he'll be okay and healed and hurry back. back's are iffier things, though I am hopeful he'll get the all clear on the 24th. I'm not sure it'll take 3 weeks from that point though.
