Lutz, hasn't played since 4/21. So if it's a DL trip, maybe they call up Evans and move Murphy to third. Either that or Russ Adams or some crazy stab in the dark like that.

Real shame about Lutz. This seems like the perfect opportunity to road-test him at the major-league level-- more pressure than September, not the ridiculously focused attention of New York in a playoff race. Also... surrounded by familiar faces.

Re: David Wright's Broken Back

And Keith's convinced the problem is in his flying-out fanny.

Can't quite conjure up the image of the April 19 collision in my head-- may have been listening on radio. (Video/photos not available in MLB highlights package, either.)

The collision merited mention in the AP game story, though:

Lee also singled in the third and was shaken up on the bases.

Chris Johnson hit a grounder toward the hole and new Mets second baseman Justin Turner tried for a force play. His wild, off-balance throw went past second, so Lee took off for third. But Wright scooped up the ball and beat Lee in a race to third, diving to tag the slugger on a bang-bang play at the bag.

Lee was called out and stayed down for a moment before walking back to the dugout holding his arm. He hyperextended his left elbow on the slide as he collided with Wright, but Lee remained in the game until he was replaced in left field by Jason Bourgeois with a 6-1 lead in the eighth.

"Tough call," Lee said. "I'm fine. I think I'll be OK."

Re: David Wright's Broken Back

I just reviewed the Wright/Lee play. If it's Wright's third inning tag-out of Carlos Lee in the top of the third on April 19th, then there was no collision, and Lee never landed on Wright. Wright dove at a sliding Lee from behind and tagged him before Lee tagged third. But on the dive, you could clearly see Wright's head snap and, without hitting the dirt, bounce up and down rather violently two or three times.

Fuck the team Doctors again. That was a nasty collision when it happened and no one could find this.

Back stress fractures and the torque of a swing sound like season long misery.

A two-part process, perhaps?

Re: David Wright's Broken Back

He'll be re-examined on June 24. If he is all healed, it will still most likely be at least 3 weeks of rehab before he is back with the big club.

If he's back by the end of the All-Star break, it will mean everything from now until then will have gone ideally. I expect August 1st is more likely to be closer to his return.

Same for Ike. We may very well have a race between David, Ike and Johan to see who can get back to the big club first.
