this American Idol finalist is the most annoying singer to make the top 4 ever.
He is an adolescent with a deep voice that allows him to feign a maturity and depth he does not possess and a world-weariness he has not earned. He uses a cliched set of country hiccups and musical phrasing that were corny when Mel Tillis and Conway Twitty used them. His attempts to be hip and/or modern devolve into finger waggin' hiphop gestures that are as inauthentic as his good ole boy shtick.
But i get it. He's a cute, cleancut boy with a deep voice. girls like him. fine. whatever. I DON'T get the judges constant BJs, especially when they are giving a hard time to the infinitely more interesting and talented Haley, but like i said... whatever. I wasn't going to let it get me riled.
But then the other night, singing "inspirational songs", Scotty boy wallows in the most pandering performance in the history of the show... after we shoot Osama, Scotty the body sings a 9/11 song, that allows him to wave the flag and the bible in both hands. Then, in song #2, Lady Gaga tries to break him of his irritating, mannered and stupid habit of holding the mike like its a piccolo and he gets all sexually threatened by her metaphors, forcing him to kiss his cross as if to ward off the sexual predator stalking him. Which is funny, considering he's singing YOUNGBLOOD, which is a song glamorizing a stalker. But its a GUY stalker, so that's fine. Gaga, however, as a woman claiming her own sexuality, must have a stake driven through her evil heart.
I lost interest in AI once the interesting Casey "Seth Rogen" Jacobs got voted off, but the continulatin' existence of McCreery is an agrivatinly anus-clenchin' example of the fact that the Civil War never really ended.
