Our new-look lineup, weather permitting:

That lineup would look a bit better if Bay didn't suck.

I want there to be as many rainouts as possible while we have half of our lineup on the DL.

how is this different from every lineup the Mets have put up since he signed?

Benjamin Grimm May 17 2011 01:29 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
Maybe I should have worded it, "This more-pathetic-than-usual lineup would be less pathetic if Bay didn't suck."

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 17 2011 01:40 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
I'm about out of patience with Bay's suck. I don't know if the Mets have ever gotten a worse deal.

I've given him through the Yankees series. he'll top 100 AB, hit in a crazy easy to hit in park, etc.

I was thinking today about this deal and where it ranks , he's just bloody terrible...he's not even hitting hard outs. Saw this today , not sure if it means a whole lot but it's pretty much what I see when he plays.

Laid down a helluva sacrifice bunt last night.
|
Ceetar May 17 2011 01:48 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
he actually is getting some hard hit outs lately. I've seen two balls hit 380+ feet in the last couple of days. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

no doubt there have been some and honestly they feel like a tease, I laugh when Keith or Gary will mention how those are good signs , he's coming around yyybbb

Yeah whatever. Put your fucking bat on the ball when Reyes is on 3rd.

I'd love it if Keith said that shit right there.

If a Met joined CPF and reached his own status, I assume the software would melt down.

All 3 of those guys were acquired bad contracts, which in a way makes them worse but also, they came with some known questions (Burnitz and Mo at least).

The weather does not permit. No game today.

Gwreck May 17 2011 03:25 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
Game will be made up on Monday, July 18 (a mutual off day).

Collins plan to have the rest of the team pick things up " starting right now" is thwarted by the weather.

So far in his Mets career, Bay has accumulated about 1.7 WAR over 491 PAs, at a cost of around $13m to date. Which is about $7.65m (and 289 PAs) per point of WAR. For comparison, Jeromy Burnitz delivered 2.4 WAR over 1283 PAs, for $19.5m. That's about $8.13M (and 535 PAs) per WAR point. So Bay has been better than Burnitz... but not by very much. It would be interesting to see this kind of breakdown on all mets FAs over time, especially broken down by the GMs that made the deals.

With cameos by Bobby Bonilla & Bret Saberhagen.

smg58 May 17 2011 04:04 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
Look at it this way. At least we're not giving Bay the equivalent of a $1M per year lifetime pension.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 17 2011 05:51 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
Yeah I'd consider Cedeno about as bad a deal as the Mets ever issued for a position player, just off the top of my head. But Bay could really give that one a run.

PS, not raining here and hasn't for hours.

2010 = $14 mil ($8.5 signing bonus + $6.5 salary) 2011 = $16 mil 2012 = $16 mil 2013 = $16 mil 2014 = $17 mil/$3 buyout

I think that Bay's deal is way more lucrative. Bonilla's getting $1M/year but at this rate of inflation, I'd bet that you won't be able to buy a starter house for a million bucks 35 years from now. Not in the five boroughs, anyway. 35 years from now, the major league minimum salary will probably have blown by the million dollar mark. BTW, speaking of bad deals, Ollie Perez was activated today, to the Nats AA squad.

Different movie. And Bonilla and Saberhagen were good players. Even excellent for a period. Their teams stunk and they became symbols of an out-of-control clubhouse, but they were in no way comparable to what Cedeņo was and what Bay threatens to be. At least Bay has a glove the team doesn't need to hide.
|
Nymr83 May 17 2011 07:45 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
I think he meant Bonilla's second stint. The one that the Mets deffered and hoped to pay for with Madoff-Money

So, yeah, they prolly could've played this one, eh?
|
Gwreck May 17 2011 08:19 PM Re: 5/17/11 - Marlins at Mets |
No doubt. At the risk of sounding wildly self-centered, I'm glad as I needed the night off from Mets baseball.
