Looks like we're going to be a couple of players short judging by that picture.

Or, I'm guessing that the Mets feel like the players can make it to YSIII on their own.

He's on the DL.

I'm hoping he's watching the game on his 72" wide-screen HDTV in the comfort of his bedroom propped up by two dozen pillows filled with freshly shorn lamb's fleece while cherubs exchange hot and cold gel packs on his back every half inning.

He's been in the dugout for all three games this week. There's absolutely no way he doesn't hang in the dugout.

There's also no way the guy takes a packed 6-to-4 train to the Death Star. Where is his place again?

I swear I'm in denial. Everytime Turner fields the ball I do a double take.

He's on the UES right by one of the train stops. 83rd or somewhere around there.

Re: IGT 05/20/11-Mets @ Yankees

I'm looking forward to these 3 games, Faith & Fear in Flushing summed up my feelings here:

http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2 ... de-friday/

but from a competitive stand point, it's not equitable. The usually annoying Jayson Stark has these points in his latest column:

• Because they're stuck with life in Subway Series perpetuity, the Mets get to play the Yankees six times. And how many times will all the other NL East teams play the Yankees this season? That would be none.

• Finally, here's a glitch that sums up the problem, even though it doesn't figure to wind up determining the fate of the NL East race. If there's supposed to be some level of division-by-division symmetry to this schedule, how do we explain this: The Mets will play 15 interleague games against teams currently .500 or better (plus three against the Angels, who are just a game under .500). The Nationals could play none. How does THAT happen?

If the Mets are supposed to contend for a playoff spot, or at least finish higher than the Nationals, interleague play stinks.

Re: IGT 05/20/11-Mets @ Yankees

I'm tired of the silly 'unfair' argument about playing the Yankees. teams change from April to September anyway. It's not any different than the Mets playing the Astros real early. What if they were to trade for a stud or bring up a prospect that dominates late in the season? is that fair to the Phillies who may have to face him twice? Or just the plain dumb luck of maybe the Mets miss Halladay in the rotation and only face him 3 times, but the Marlins face him 6 times?

Over a 162 game season I believe the teams that are good will make the playoffs. it's not diluted enough that a bad team will sneak in. You could have an average team get hot for a couple of weeks and beat really good teams, and you could have really good teams play badly and lose to some crappy teams. I just don't think 'strength of schedule' is a legitimate argument in baseball.

Now, that said the Mets played all 7 2006 postseason teams in 2007 and it's not much of a stretch to wonder if that was the difference between the playoffs and not.

Would I rather play the Orioles tonight? Probably. But I'd rather play the Nationals 36 times and th Phillies not at all too..

Three perfect innings from the pen - and definitely THE most impressive inning of the year from Frankie.

With all the focus on his vesting clause and what not, he's had kind of a strange year so far. Only one blown save back in the first week and we wound up winning that game anyway. But while he's been saving everything since then he's also been giving up a ton of base-runners even while allowing very few runs and no runs that really mattered. Can't keep that up forever though.
Now suddenly in the last 4 or 5 outings he's gotten a lot tighter. Gotta like him working faster tonight also.

Crush him every week if that's what it takes!

Missed that one.

As someone who normally jumps all over Guys!, I gotta say, at least in the early innings, his stuff was short, tight, and informative (including the bit about BP that opened up into an interesting discussion in the booth).

The pitching wasn't just effective tonight... it was pretty. Though the MFY approach to him was pretty solid, Dickey's balls were dancing more than an unsupported Michael Flatley's pair, O'Connor may just be someone we can use for a while against everyone, and Frankie looks dominant these days.

Did anyone else notice, after the game, Chip Hale's microphone picked up someone in the dugout yelling, "Fuck yeah!" ?

(And what would be the "correct" way to punctuate the above sentence?)

I was pleased that he had gotten pushed back to tonight, thinking Fboy and I were more likely to see a win from Gee yesterday than Dickey given his recent outings. Glad to have been proven wrong.

I get a fuzzy glow when the Mets beat the MFYs. It warms my cockles.

I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly. The point is that the Mets are guaranteed play against a more challenging team than many of their opponents get.

And that's not a random asisnment. They'll get them next year, and the next after that.

They beat the MFYs.

You could make the case that playing 3 against the Rangers and 3 against the Red Sox is a tougher assignment.

The Marlins play the Rays 6 times.

The Mets also get 8 against the Pirates when most of the division gets 6.

Did you read Joe Posnanski's post about the Yankees in 2013? It doesn't paint a pretty picture, but it's who we get to face 6 times. There is nothing special about the Yankees. they have no special divine right or handicap. Just because they spend more doesn't mean they'll always be a more challenging opponent. I get that the unbalanced schedule in general may give a tougher schedule to some clubs, but it doesn't keep the truly best teams in the league from making the playoffs.

As correctly punctuated as tonight's game.

Just because they spend more doesn't mean they'll always be a more challenging opponent.

No, but it means they're more likely to be a more challenging opponent.

They've missed the playoffs like, what, once in the last 15 years?

Yes, they're a more challenging opponent.

Over the last 15 seasons, the Yankees won more regular season games, post-season games, World Series and qualified for post-season play more than any other team. Do you think that's a coincidence? A random fluke? Luck?

One can make the case that this modern incarnation of the Yankees is the most dominant of all Yankee dynasties. They have more money to spend on payroll than any other team, and in any given season, usually outspend the most frugal team by 10 to 20 times. I can't remember the last time any major sports media outlet made a pre-season prediction that excluded the Yankees from the post-season.

In 2007, your NY Mets missed the post-season by one game. How do you know that playing the Yankees instead of any other team six times wasn't the difference maker that season? You don't know because you can't know. The same can be said about any team that misses the playoffs by one or two games. In baseball especially, the best teams don't always have the best W-L record.

If you're correct, then it shouldn't matter if the Mets play the Yankees 162 times instead of just six times a season.

Re: IGT 05/20/11-Mets @ Yankees

Even the "2013" assaying by Posnanski is a bit off-- where that level of financial commitment would (and may) cripple, say, the Phils, as long as the MFYs are winning, they've got revenue enough to push payroll to middling-franchise-overall-value levels.

The answer to this, is not to play them less. It's to pass legislation guaranteeing that they suck.

Great IGT guys.

I'm as high on the team today as I have been in years.

RA=Ridiculously Awesome.

Gotta love winning the game on a 152 foot one-handed HR.

Bay sucks. Just seeing his face makes me angry.

I can't wait for this infield to get healthy. Wright-Reyes-Turner-Davis makes me smile. I hope this guy is for real.

I'm really happy with Rodriguez right now. Fuck it. Let the option vest. Let's keep this guy.

Fuck rebuilding. Let's win it all.
