IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

The Mets face Derek Lowe tonight. Derek had a bar made of ice and goofy fratboy halfbeard at his wedding and also had a good enough lawyer to beat his DUI rap. He's coming off a rough one, and has in fact surrendered 10 walks in his last two starts, so le'ts wait him out. He last face us in Atlanta April 16 and spit out a line of 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO.

I'm totally cool that we didn't sign him.

Niese is coming off a great start against the Phils. Let's be there for him.

It's also the Don't Trade Reyes facebook/7line game. Gatherers will be on the bridge wearing the don't trade Reyes shirts. Burkhardt says they'll probably show them during the broadcast.

Wanna know what Justin Turner's eating to fuel up for the game?

Dan Uggla is the guy they're hoping will come around? Let me check and...

Wow, I don't know if it'll make the KTE, but Uggla has been awful. Like, he dreams of someday being Jason Bay-awful.

.175 / .241 / .316 // .557.

And some Mets fans wanted him. Imagine if we had both those guys (and no T urner?)

This also sets up some jokes about Scott Hairston being more productive working at the taco stand in center field, but that'd be mean.

Re: IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

Hairston is a baseball lifer and I have no doubt he makes himself useful in ways that don't show up in the boxscore.

Here's hoping he upgrades the boxscore stuff. He seems to lead the team in mammoth tomahawk would-be homers down the leftfield line that go just foul.

Sheffield led that one in 2009. Wonder who led last year? Barajas probably.

"Mets roster update: RHP Dale Thayer and RHP Manny Acosta switched numbers...Thayer is wearing #36 and Acosta is now #46."

Damn. I just bought a Thayer, 46 jersey.

that's confusing. Also, damn that Oliver Perez for not giving up his number to Acosta who clearly wanted it. (he switched to it from 62 in 2007 with the Braves)

bbtn.net doesn't give me much info about why/who 46 was that he didn't get it immediately.

not really interesting, or relevant, but confusing.

B-r.com doesn't mention the 46 for Royce Ring, but baseball almanac does (but agrees he also wore the 34). Ring was traded to the Braves from the Padres. Acosta was up early, came back late, presumably after (augst 12th) Ring had been acquired. B-R says he wore 62 and 46 that year, but Almanac says only 46.

Who would want that number after Ollie soiled it so badly?

Re: IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

A multitude of screwups that half-inning:
- ump at 3rd calling Reyes safe
- Beltran not reading Muffy's single until too late - he broke late and should have been out
- bad throw by Prado both too high for cut-off and past the catcher
- Muffy not trying to advance until too late

... but it's three runs and I'll take it

Tying run in sc. pos. in the eighth, and Reyes misses a grounder. Tie game.

Knock that shit down, Hosey.

I was just about to ask about how with LHBs Murphy, Pagan (Sw) & Thole coming up why wouldn't Freddi Gonzalez leave Venters in to pitch the 9th.
The answer, of course, is that he's not "the closer" - although now the answer is that it doesn't matter who he brings in.

Wright out three more weeks....

Sandy Alderson says David Wright, based on previous X-Ray, needs to remain inactive for three more weeks.

Rubin
Alderson: "Maybe we'll have David back for Santana's first start."

Re: IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

Apparently though it's not "three more weeks " to the docs who maintain Wright is on their timetable as they said six weeks from diagnosis and Alderson and the Mets thought they meant six weeks from the time of the injury. Glad to see the medical mis-communication went away with Minaya.

Re: IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

I'm guessing that we're not going to see David Wright until after the All-Star Break. We'll be told he's "close" and then then hear that he needs a few more days, then there'll be a rehab start or two, and by then, barring a setback, it will be July 15 when the MFPs are back in town.

Re: IGT, 6/3/2011, Braveness @ Metrosexuality

My rule of thumb (and back) is to double the timetable for an injured player's expected return. So if the Mets are saying 3 1/2 - 4 weeks for Wright's return, I figure 7-8 weeks. Sometimes I miss, sometimes badly, but I'm closer to actuality more often than not.
