Judging from the monsoon that's been over Central NJ for the last 45 minutes or so, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a rain delay before this game.

And crappier yet 100 miles south.

I think I just saw Jose on a boat headed to FL.

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

Look at the MFY BS. The media will praise Girardi for "clever gamesmanship" rather than the bush league move it was.

Even a MFY season ticket holder agrees:

Keith Olbermann
#Yankees hold up delayed 1st pitch of game v Mets by having SP Freddy Garcia walk across field. Manager should be ejected. No class.

One-out walk to Granderson. Otherwise, Dickey is pitching... effectively.

Had YES on as Yankee friend is over , Kay asked Leiter if he had a preference on jersey top when playing for the Mets , pinstrips although he never requested them. I have distinct memories of him in black.

If so, is it O'Doul's, or is it a $12 Budweiser?

Tight ass, apparently.

But then, if you'd picked up last year's Bisons swimsuit calendar, you'd know that.

Near-boom. But like LWFS, Beltran is a little too quick on the trigger, and hooks slightly to the right.

GIRARDI: What the hell is that, Layne? There was no tag!

LAYNE: Next time, have your fatass starter take the tunnel to the dugout after warm-ups. By the way, would you like to make a pitching change while you're out here?

Two hard hit balls by Swisher and Martin that mercifully stayed in the big park....Girardi upset with the ump on a tag play.

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

The MFYs get a little hot luck injection of their own, getting the DP after a casual turn by Cano makes it REALLY close at first on Bay, and then getting a lucky bounce off the bag on Duda's liner, to turn it into a 3-1 putout.

Even if it hadn't hit the bag Duda would have been out. Tex was positioned perfectly.

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

Ok, maybe not. Good play by Gardener there and I was fine with them sending Duda.

I think the advantage shifts back to us here, particularly getting another inning out of Rodriguez.

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

Had to send Duda.

Or did you? Bases-loaded, two out, and the pressure to throw strikes mounts on Baldy, doesn't it?

(All hindsight armchair-third-base-coaching here-- was fine with the send on its face.)

I hummed "O Canada" for the entirety of Jason Bay's 9th-inning at-bat, followed it with every patriotic hymn or at least American-themed song I could think of for every Mets hitter who followed and then came back with an encore in the tenth.

Another great Canadian song:

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

I was thinking when Terry sent Paulino in for Thole that that's a move Manual wouldn't have been so quick to make. Even though it's a classic lefty/righty swap that Jerry loved*, he would have tended to keep his reserve catcher in for the 19th inning which probably wouldn't have come on account of him being too wimpy to use his reserve catcher even in a last-ditch effort to tie the game. In summary, while it's hard to call it a great move, it's certainly not one we've gotten used to seeing around here.

Liked that he left KRod in for a 2nd inning also. Again, with the pitcher leading off that kind of move should be a no-brainer, but of course Jerry never would have had him in in the first place on account of the Mets being behind and/or tied.

* on edit - actually it wasn't even a classic R/L switch because it was against Mariano. It's well known that he's even tougher on LHBs but I suspect that would have been too much for Jerry to contemplate.

Re: IGT 7/3/2011: MFY @ NYM -- After the MRI

In fairness to Jerry, I think even he got the concept that in a tie game at home, the closer comes in to pitch in the 9th inning.

Wow, missed the whole exciting finish. We were driving north for a cookout and listening on XM, when we got there the good guys were down 2-1 in the 8th. I didn't even bother to check my phone to see what happened.

Yay for us.

Jerry also has it on his track record to pinch-hit catcher-for-catcher when down to his last out.
