Great names on this team that could really expand the dictionary of Mets Scrabble. Adopt one now, as this could be one of the namiest Mets affiliates of all time. My favorite: Rainy Lara, with honorary mentions to Ricky Ruff and Breiner Soto.

Pitchers
Martires Arias
Alberto Baldonado
Jacob DeGrom
Miller Diaz
Carlos Gomez
Julian Hilario
Robert Lake
Rainy Lara
Steven Matz
Kenneth McDowall
Isaac Monrroy
Rafael Montero
Adam O'Neill
Richard Ruff
Chad Sheppard
Edioglis Villasmil
Jared West
Gabriel Ynoa

Catchers
Hector Alvarez
Jeyckol De Leon
Edward Rohan

Infielders
Sneider Batista
Juan Carlos Gamboa
Carlos Leyva
Dimas Ponce
Randoll Santana
Donnie Tabb

Outfielders
Thomas De Wolf
Gilbert Gomez
Ryan Hutson
Ariel Mercedes
Eudy Pina
Breiner Soto

The team opens the season with a 5-4 loss to the Gulf Coast Nats. I'm not sure if Matz is there to play or just holding a place on their roster, but he's listed as active.

Re: The Gulf Coast Newbies

I adopted Edioglis Villasmil last year because of his name.

Jeyckol De Leon, if he can turn into Mr. Hyde at the plate.

Ariel Mercedes.

Gotta love a guy with not one, but TWO women's names. Bet he got beat up a lot in grade school.

Re: The Gulf Coast Newbies

The Gulf Coasters are up to 2-1 with the Mets taking a 5-3 win over thier Marlin counterparts, featuring five shutout innings from Miller Diaz --- three hits, one walk, three strikeouts.

My new friend Rainy Lara came on with two on and got the last out for the save.

Still waiting on Matz's debut. (Some say he's wearing a boot. I hear he's wearing two!)

Sneider Batista sounds like a stylish cartoon villain, maybe a rat or a chinchilla

Re: The Gulf Coast Newbies

Thanks, Rubin.

Left-hander Steve Matz, the organization’s top pick (second round) two years ago, is home on Long Island. Matz, who had Tommy John surgery in May 2010, has halted throwing for the time being. He is expected to return to the Mets’ Port St. Lucie, Fla., complex in a week to 10 days. After being examined by Mets doctor David Altchek following elbow discomfort, Matz sought a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. Wogan suggested neither doctor has any concern. Instead, the farm director said, the throwing interruption is a reminder that despite some pitchers returning as quickly as 11 months after Tommy John surgery, the length of recovery can be as long as 18 months, and that Matz fits into the category of a longer recovery time.

The Gulf Coasties come into the eighth inning down 4-2, and simply. go. nuts. They hammer out a 10-run eighth inning for the the 12-4 victory, featuring some character named Nimmo reaching base all five times --- three hits, two walks --- including his second homer.
