B-Mets Report, 06/26/11

I went to Bowie today to see Matt Harvey's AA debut. I wish I could tell you nothing but good things but I can't. He was not impressive. I hope he was just nervous or too strong (extra day of rest) or too hot or something.

Before the game, I asked Wally (who was signing autographs) if he was going to join Davey Johnson in Washington. He said "I just talked with Davey." I asked if he was leaving and he said "not right now." Which could mean he's leaving tonight.

Harvey threw almost nothing but fastballs in the 1st inning. He hit 94 on the radar. Bowie sat on the fastballs and got a run.

In the 2d and 3d, he hit 96 on his fastball and then tried to establish his slider and change or curve (I couldn't tell from the 3B side). He struck out 2 on nice sliders but Bowie teed off on his fastball. In the 5th he tried to throw his fastball again most of the time but he was wild, walking two. Wally took him out after 4 2/3, 4 ER.

Brad Holt pitched later in the game and was awful.

Jean Luc Blaquiere: Montreal Canadian or B-Met?

I wanted to see Matt Den Dekker who just joined the team. He went 0-5. Jordany Valespin had 2 hits, 1 SB (1 CS). Josh Satin hit for the cycle on Friday. Today, he got called out on strikes three times.

The only impressive B-Mets were Brahiam Maldonado--.191 avg but 14 HR including a HR and triple today--and RP Ricky Brooks.

Bowie 6, B-Mets 4.

Thanks for the report, especially the radar gun figures.
