Evans' big day helps Misch in 7-5 win Herd pounds Redding for six in the third By Sam Wilson / Buffalo Bisons 06/29/2011 4:50 PM ET Nick Evans stayed red-hot for the Herd, taking his hit Buffalo season-best hit streak to 19 games with a 5-for-5 day in the Herd's 7-5 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the fifth Bisons win in six games. Evans is 38-for-74 (.513) on the streak with 11 doubles, three homers, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored. "Right now, he's unleashing on pitches," Evans' teammate, Michael Fisher, said. "Guys are seeing that and going up with more confidence, saying, 'Hey, let's get it going.'" An error on an attempted fielder's choice ignited a six-run third inning, setting the table for a two-RBI, bases-loaded Fernando Martinez single. Valentino Pascucci, the next batter, drove in Nick Evans from second with still no outs. "We really haven't done that in a while," Teufel said. "Of course the error really set it up, getting a ground ball that would have been a double play. That kind of kicked us off and we ended up hitting after that, getting some clutch RBIs." Jesus Feliciano, Luis Hernandez, Raul Chavez and starting pitcher Pat Misch also drove in runs. Misch struck out eight (four looking) over 5 2/3 innings, shutting out the IronPigs until a solo shot by Brian Bocock, a John Mayberry, Jr. double and a Tagg Bozied (holy shit, Tagg F. Bozied!) two-run shot sliced the lead in half in the fourth. Bocock ended Misch's night with another homer in the fifth, his fourth of the year. Misch left with a one-run lead, allowing all five earned runs on eight hits with four walks. Teufel said wind helped carry some balls out, with the Chavez and Evans narrowly missing homers on foul balls. "To keep the ball in the ballpark was a chore and they did a better job of it than we did on that front," Teufel said. " Redding, a former Met and Bison (this is a lie --- Tim Redding never played for the Mets), took the loss with six runs (four earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Figueroa scored Hernandez with a single in the seventh, giving the bullpen an insurance run. "That really changed the game because we would have played the whole inning differently without the two-run cushion," Teufel said. Thayer and, previously, John Lujan and Taylor Tankersley, struck out five in a span of six batters before Ryota Igarashi closed out the game. Igarashi allowed runners on the corners with one out, but quickly retired the next two batters for the save. Game Notes: Pascucci leads Buffalo with 50 RBI on the season... Redding had a 2.77 ERA in two starts for Buffalo in 2009 without a decision...Josh Barfield, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored for the IronPigs, played in 73 games for the Herd in 2008 as a Cleveland Indians farmhand.

Great for him but what's the point of it all when he gets called up he gets ten at bats to show himself , gets stuck to the bench and sent back down?

You can say that about almost anybody. He's earned another chance, but he'll have to keep earning his at bats once he arrives. He's long past the most-valuable-prospect stage.

I'd rather he stay in AAA and rake vs coming up to flushing and sitting on the bench, and not hit...and have to clear through waivers again... someone will get hurt. it's just inevitable. do it then.

Yeah, someone may get hurt, but we also have someone (hopefully) coming back in a few weeks to reclaim third base. Has Evans had any more time in the outfield? There may be an opening there if Beltran gets dealt, but I doubt that he'd be the one they'd turn to. Unless he keeps hitting .500, of course.

Unless he keeps hitting .500, of course. yeah. with the roster the way it is, and possibilities of trades... a lot can happen. the way we're playing, i don't know if we'd even see beltran traded away. if he does though, it seems like duda would go to RF so we'd have room for murph on 1st, and put turner or tejada in 2b.

Nick Evans has come for your women and chattle, triple-slashing to the tune of .323 / .373 / .477 // .851. In June, well, he only played 15 games, but he pretty much made José Reyes look silly: .500 / .561 / .759 // 1.319. He went 2-6 yesterday, and I've got to think there's room for him on this team. I can't imagine Terry likes his lineup against lefties right now --- starting Murphy and the hapless-against-lefties Duda at the corners and batting Paulino pau-clean-o.

The Sickenator goes 3-5 in his last game with Buffalo, flying out of town with a gaudy slash line of .329 / .378 / .480 // .858. Still, there's no word yet on whether he's been activated. But it's worth noting that (a) the Mets are going for their first four-game sweep of the Dodgers in team history, (b) they are facing an All-Star lefthander, (c) Daniel Murphy is OPSing at .634 against lefties this season, and (d) Lucas Duda is OPSing at .552 vs. lefties. They need the Sickness.

i think Evans/Duda should be in a strict platoon at 1b until Wright comes back, at which point Duda goes down and Murphy plays 1b (with Evans against some [not all] LHPs). If and when Davis comes back, Murphy/Turner can platoon at 2b, with Tejada going down (or playing SS if Jose goes bye bye). If Beltran gets traded, I'd prefer a Duda/Evans platoon in RF, or F-Mart (if healthy) full time. I keep waiting for Evans to make an impact against major league pitching. maybe this time.

Maybe this time is the time, helps them win some games.

Yeah. that's what I meant. I thought you were inferring to how successful Duda was in AAA before his callup. regardless, someone said Evans is in the lineup tonight.
