Washington Square

I don’t know if anyone but me will remember this, but many years ago, I wondered aloud (forum-wise) about a song that I could remember from way back when and how could I find out what it was, etc. There were no words to it so there was no way to Google it or anything. A search of instrumentals from the 60’s turned up nothing. All I could describe about it was that it was a pretty song with banjo pickin’ and it reminded me of a Southern gentleman pecan farmer riding his horse and buggy through his fields checking his crop. Somebody suggested I call a radio station and hum part of it but I didn’t do it.

Anyway this morning I heard this song coming from a co-workers cubicle! I ran over and he wasn’t there! I was dying thinking he wouldn’t get back before it was over, but someone else came along and we figured out how to show his radio and here it is

Imagine my surprise and dismay that is about NYC! But still, I love it and I can imagine my Colonel Sanders fantasy (not THAT kind of fantasy)

Re: Washington Square

Some DJ used that theme as the intro (or maybe it was the outro) for his radio show.
It was probably long-time NYC DJ Pete Fornatale who used it for a folk-oriented show he did on weekends for a time.

Just met Pete Fornatale Jr. on a train ride. Interesting guy. Writes a lot about sports, especially horse racing.

Re: Washington Square

I blogged about it a year and half ago. I like it, but I like their "Midnight in Moscow" better.

Big Mets fan Pete is. Also was (maybe still is) a friend of Marty Noble.

IIRC, the horse racing stuff came about via one of his sons who both played the ponies and wrote about them.
