IGT 7/6/2011: NYM @ LAD -- Niese In Our Time

Jul 06 2011 02:29 PM

10:10 EDT, 7:10 PDT, Jon Niese attempts to make it four Mets wins in a row versus Hiroki Kuroda, of whom any mention inevitably evokes for me ex-boxer Rookie Carroca from My Favorite Year.

One hopes Niese does not evoke images of the first inning of his last start versus the MFYs, and that the Met offense effects a TKO of Mr. Carroca...uh, Kuroda.

I'll repost my tweets from earlier, as they're applicable.

Niese, with a win, would tie Jason Isringhausen for 50th on the all-time Mets list with 19.

Beltran needs one sac-fly to tie Rusty Staub for 7th on the Mets list.

If Izzy blows Niese's win tonight, we'll know something's up.

I'm not drinking tonight, although I did just fix my wine fridge, so the 4 bottles of beer (22ozers) i have in there will be cold tomorrow.

I dislike tonic. I'd rather a gin and gin. (or a Tom Collins)

Another double for Beltran, that would've been a Triple for him 2-3 years ago. You wouldn't take that from Reyes when his "speed goes"?

Re: IGT 7/6/2011: NYM @ LAD -- Niese In Our Time

are you all asleep? old fogies..

Duda drives in Beltran, but a Kemp single and a Loney out creates a run to tie it.

btw, Reds blew an 8-0 lead with the final run in the 9th. Phillies lose because they suck. (I actually bet on the Marlins today. imagine that) stupid Braves won though.

Reyes' speed -- turning doubles into triples, singles into doubles, etc. -- mitigates his lack of power. Beltran still has plenty of power.

Re: IGT 7/6/2011: NYM @ LAD -- Niese In Our Time

An apparent double-play that might've gotten Niese most of the way out of the inning ended in the batter being called safe.

Instant replay suggested that the call was blown.

Re: IGT 7/6/2011: NYM @ LAD -- Niese In Our Time

Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.
Kemp grounded to Tejada who went to second for the first out. Turner relay to Duda was in time (clearly) but the ump called Kemp safe, prolonging the inning.

I think it was only a one-run error, as the runner who went to third then scored on a sac fly (which would have been the third out if the DP was called correctly). At the time of the blown call, Ethier had already singled in Furcal for the Dodgers' first run of that inning.

How fucking low is that Citibank commercial that asks us Met fans to believe that the hardworking immigrant parents who achieved their American dream and retired to Isreal were ever real Met fans to begin with, when real Met fans already know their Shea seats can't be ordered specifically by row, and that this thoughtful, expensive "gift" by their douchy son wouldn't even exist had Citi not participated in selling us the other big lie that we needed a douchy new building with its name atop in the first place.

Hey, fuck off, Citibank. Profit off one stadium at a time, you corporate assholes, and leave the real fans alone.

Mets (and the rest of the East) gain a game on Phillie as Florida takes them out. The Queensmen sit 9.5 back.

Bigger news perhaps is tying Pittsburgh in the Wild Card race. They are 6.5 back there. Next up is Milwaukee, just a half game in front.

I'm totally with you in spirit as I can't believe how much I hate a commercial that refers to "my beloved New York Mets," but the dad was transferred to Istanbul -- not retired to Israel. Douche factor, however, is off the charts.

I love the analysis of the Caesar's Palace commercial. My son and I have picked it apart but never came up with the possibility that she's a hooker and asked how he had money to gamble. We've wondered if he's diving in the pool in his underwear unless he was wearing a bathing suit in his room.

I suppose it's possible he slipped his credit card or something into his robe. The most unbelievable part is that he's going to pick up a newspaper. Yeah, who reads the free US Today anymore?

I don't mind the Istanbul commercial, It's certainly what I would want if I had to 'retire' to some foreign place. Although at this point I'd never voluntarily watch every game from uncomfortable Shea seats. I do think season ticket holders were offered the opportunity to buy their own #'d seats. Citi's commercials, on a whole, have probably been consistently above average the last couple of years.

Re: IGT 7/6/2011: NYM @ LAD -- Niese In Our Time

You may think that commercial is lame but there's an even-worse generic version - one that runs, I suppose, everywhere outside NYC area - where the voice-over is identical except that the parents are given seats 'from their beloved home-town team'.

And you thought they were only trying to profit off two stadiums at once?
