We'll have a Met in the starting line-up! Beltran is going to be the DH. I predict a double!

Wait a second...what did I miss?

The game is at an NL park. Notwithstanding the fact that the All-Star Game is the ONLY place where the DH actually makes sense, since when did they stop alternating it's use in the ASG?

Hasn't it been AL Park=DH, NL Park=Real Baseball for like...forever?

Cue FOX music as Joe Fuck says "this time it counts" , no idea why the DH is there but it counts....

Re: Beltran named All-Star starter at DH

Looking at recent ASG box scores on baseball-reference and see this is the first time DH is in the NL park. It's been used in AL parks since 1989. It always used to be said this is the one game a year where a DH makes sense (if you go for that sort of thing). Carlos is the first Met to get the starting DH assignment.

This was a rule change made recently.

Wow. Baseball actually did something that makes sense....until they decide NOT to use it at the AL park next year of course.

I'd argue it _doesn't_ make sense. What better way then to get more of the stars actually into the game than pinch hitting them in the 9th spot?

Would love if two or three slots per team per year were reserved for the best specialists in the game: best pinch-hitter in each league, best defensive replacement, best LOOGY, that sort of thing. Give the Kranepools, the Jorgensens, the Felicianos their moment to shine. What the hell, there are already a zillion All-Stars anyway.

Re: Beltran named All-Star starter at DH

I've often woken up at 3 AM wondering what would happen if it absolutely poured rain at the site of the All-Star game for two days and they couldn't play (not a factor this year, obviously). Who would get home field advantage in the World Series? Coin toss? Carnac the Magnificent? Jeter gets to pick? Rock, Paper, Scissors? What would happen?

This is goddamn stupid.
