SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JUNE 2011 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for June 2011 is JOSE REYES. This is Jose's fifth Player of the Month Award, and his second in a row. Reyes led the Mets in June with 117 at bats, 29 runs, 45 hits, 7 triples, and in all three "triple slash" categories, with .385/.425/.598. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for June is first-time winner CHRIS CAPUANO. In June, Chris was 4-2 with a 3.25 ERA over 36 innings. His 30 strikeouts led the team. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a second-time winner, PEDRO BEATO. Pedro has now been named reliever of the month in two of the three months that he has pitched for the Mets. Pedro somehow managed to earn the most Schaefer points out of the bullpen in a month in which he had a 6.39 ERA in 11 appearances.

Great job as always, BG! I think it is interesting to see all of the starters bunched up 6 - 10. Look at those pitching lines! Very close race for pitcher of the month.

Is that the largest point gap between #s 1 and 2 that you've had?

Capuano went into his last start on June 29 needing only a few points to clinch the award, but he sputtered. Pelfrey, on June 30 then needed only a few points to win, but he too failed to come through. There was one point, about a week before the end of the month, where all five starters had point totals between 11 and 12. A very tight race. The points earned by the starters left very little for the relievers. I will have to look and see, but I think Beato's win came with very few points. I think generally the winning reliever has more than 4.93 points.

He has a legitimate beef. I just hope it doesn't cause tension in the Mets bullpen.

Fantastic pack of cards. Thanks BG. I'm glad to see Parnell using his apparent slight (though you can never tell with relievers' ERA) to motivate him to a great July. Dale Thayer will tell anyone who listens, "It's true -- I beat David Wright in Schaefer voting!"
