Gary Brown seems to be a key:

I'm chuffed I think, seems to be plenty of positive reaction going around about the trade from a Mets perspective .

I like Gary Brown. If there's more, I am very pleased.

seawolf17 Jul 27 2011 11:49 AM Re: Beltran to Giants: Heyman |
I'm taking "Heyman" out of the thread title, because he's a doosh and this seems to go beyond him anyway; don't want him in there getting credit when we archive this.

Farmer Ted Jul 27 2011 12:03 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
The Giants are a good landing spot for Beltran, if this holds. Glad he'll have nice scenery on the west coast before signing a two-year deal with the Mets in the offseason.
seawolf17 Jul 27 2011 12:04 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |

Plus he gets to plant the bug in the ear of guys like Posey and Cain about how fuckin' awesome it is playing in Queens.
Ceetar Jul 27 2011 12:05 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |

actually he merely says someone said to pay at tention to those names. so basically he's just listing Giants prospects. Problem is, i could see Beltran liking SF, and staying there.

From Toby Hyde: I’m very skeptical on Zack Wheeler. The 21-year old has fanned 10 batters/9 in the Cal League but walked 4.8 batters per nine. I saw him for five innings in 2010, and the velocity was plus. His breaking ball was crude and he was very wild. The numbers say, he’s still wild. He has a long way to go.

Keep in mind this is the same Post that told us a few days ago (Sherman, I think) citing several factors which said that there was no way the Mets were going to get even a medium-good prospect for Beltran - even if they paid his freight. And, yeah, I realize that this is two different stories and one's a source and the other an opinion ... but still.
metirish Jul 27 2011 01:29 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |

this exactly , and on top of that the same writers on twitter were quick to tell us how Sabean in no way will ever trade top prospects...."he hates doing that"...
bmfc1 Jul 27 2011 01:30 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
What happened to the theory that the Mets would only get mid-level prospects? They got the 55th best prospect in the country. I would have preferred a hitter but this is a good return.
Ceetar Jul 27 2011 01:30 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
multiple sources? How many legitimate sources could there really be? Do you ask Alderson and then DePodesta? I gues by now it's probably sent to Boras and out and stuff, but these reporters make it sound like Alderson has a phone list and he calls every paper in America when the terms change. I don't think we have any official confon on Wheeler either. I mean, they say it's official, but I'm pretty sure they said that about Brown too.

Ha! Love this from Terry AdamRubinESPN Terry Collins said Lucas Duda will be primary RF. "He better get comfortable really fast," Collins said. "He's got about an hour and a half"
metirish Jul 27 2011 02:41 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
I had similar thoughts AdamRubinESPN Terry Collins doesn't know if Beltran will be here. "I can't use him," the manager added. Mets play with 24 tonight.
metsmarathon Jul 27 2011 02:43 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
because you'd hate for him to twist an ankle or pull a hammy tonight and get nothing for him. or maybe he just takes a golden sombrero and kicks around a few balls in the outfield and san francisco has second thoughts on whether or not they really want him for the tentatively-agreed-upon price.
Frayed Knot Jul 27 2011 02:46 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
I mean theoretically it would be legal to use him, but they're not going to do that and jeopardize the deal. At the same time until it's official he can't be replaced on the roster so, yeah, they're going to be a bat short today ... two if you include the fact that Bay is still here.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 27 2011 02:56 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
I'm was already inviting Brian Sabean to my year-end pretend poker game. Now I'm double-inviting him. Brown would've been nice. I hope we get a throw-in or two; it's always nice to have a two-or-three-in-a-million chance instead of one, y'know?
attgig Jul 27 2011 02:56 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |
yup. no way you risk injuring beltran and the giants pulling out of the deal. same the other way. if wheeler were to be slated to pitch today, no way they let him pitch, and risk an injury and have the mets pull out of the deal.
metirish Jul 27 2011 03:09 PM Re: Beltran to Giants |

One of the twatters mentioned that the Mets FO was interested in what they believed was the best quality prospect rather than a bunch of lesser ones, quality over quantity. I'll find that tweet in a bit......Waldstien IIRC.
