Fill in the blank:

You've just been handed tickets to an upcoming Mets game and, because you've checked the schedule and realize it could be a real important one for the stretch drive (work with me here, OK?), your first thought is;
"Oh, I really hope ________ is pitching that night."

In other words, without muddling up your answer by bringing in factors such as age, future hopes, general likability, or grading on a curve due to salary & expectations, which one of the current starters would you currently trust the most to put in a good outing on a given night?

George Stone (some pain just don't go away)

Seriously, my first, knee-jerk reaction is Niese.

I voted Gee - the best option for a good performance on a given night.
But on second thought, R.A. Dickey, while not as consistent, might be the one to pitch the team's first no-hitter on any given night.

DGW - that's not just pain. That's massive trauma.

Gee may have been a contender for my vote early, and he's impressed me with the battling-with-bad-stuff jobs he's done in the last 2-3 starts.

But it's really a two-man race here, and Hawkman takes it by a sensitive hangnail over Beowulf. (It's REAL close.)

None of these guys compares to pre-injured Johan.

But among this batch I've seen Niese pitch some great games, so I'd go with him.

Good, difficult question. I went with Niese.

I went with Niese, but it's really a four guys I'm comfortable with, and one guy I'm not.

I went with Dickey, but feel the same as Edgy. I'm OK with 80% of the staff.

NIese, but shouldn't it be 'whom do you trust?'

Went with Niese in a close call over Gee.

Re: Who Do You Trust?

On the 27th day of October
In the Autumn of eighty-six
While the Mets were jumping Orosco
I was born like a ton of bricks
I licked all the boys in Ohio
As we fought in the midwestern dust
Come on, baby, take a walk with me child
And tell who do you trust?
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?

I got 40 pounds of weight on my curveball grip
Take it easy baby don't you give me no lip
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?

Got a Steve Carlton arm and a Bob Gibson mind
I'm just twenty-four and I don't mind dy'n'
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?

Now Terry puts the game ball right in my hand
Said "Howard's up and we need him fanned"
Who do you trust?

Got a nose like a hawk and bite like snake
Here comes Utley who they say can rake
Unleashed my curve and somebody screamed
You should've heard what I'd seen
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?

Got a Steve Carlton arm and a Bob Gibson mind
I'm just twenty-four and I don't mind dy'n'
It starts at your shoulders, comes crash at your feet
It's the 12-6 curve, babe, it sets up the heat
Who do you trust?
Who do you trust?

Nice one, although that wasn't my inspiration.
Actually ...

... I was going for a play off the old TV game-show which gave Johnny Carson his start (no, really, I was) but then abandoned the idea of making a reference to the show seeing as how I never saw it and probably fewer have even heard of it ... but then I kept the title as the subject heading anyway.
