Netbook Advice

I'm in the market for a netbook. I want something with Windows 7 and a long battery life (8+ hours or better). I'm not really a fan of Acer, but would consider that, Toshiba or Asus.

What do you guys recommend?

Re: Netbook Advice

i don't look at the specs often, but is 8+ hours common? I know batteries have been getting better, but that seems like a long time. (and these are usually extremely best case scenarios involving limited to no use)

What do you want it for? planning to use it mostly at home, or out and about?

I'd suggest trying out the keyboard, although that's usually a me problem, as I have big fingers and the netbooks annoy me to type on.

The chromebook battery life exceeds 8 hours, it's amazing.

I've seen 11 and 13 hours for some models.

I want the option of using it for long car rides and for travel, although most of the time I'll likely use it at home.

I need to read up on chromebooks, i'm such a bad nerd.

They seem like a great idea, but they seem to be getting mixed reviews too. But it also seems like the best features of and iPad and a netbook. You get a computer, with a keyboard and a browser, but also quick boot, instantish web access and apps. Also seems like less of a deal to deal with things like viruses and defragging and my computer running spyware and all that stuff you bug your computer literate friend to fix on your computer. (speaking of which, my cousin's computer is sitting in my living room waiting for just this..)

But it sounds like it's also a bit of a culture shock in getting used to where you save files and information.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the tablet as compared to a netbook or chromebook?

It has some information, but doesn't totally answer my questions.

Re: Netbook Advice

On irish's advice and description I'm going with the Chromebook. The 10 second boot-up fits my needs really well, and I like that it has the option to subscribe to Verizon 3G for $9.99 a day on travel days if I use up my 100 MB per month allowance.

The next time the lawn guys cut me off from FiOS, I'll have a 3G backup available - that's also a major plus.

Re: Netbook Advice

I have a Gateway netbook that I'm not thrilled with, but gets the job done. My biggest issue with it has really been the screen resolution; sometimes it's hard to manage certain sites online.

excellent , that Verizon deal has come in very handy....

Metfairy, you should really demo one of these first...you won't be downloading you camera pix and things like that, there is no desktop , no Windows , it's pure internet.......I love it.

But there's an SD slot, according to the specs. So long as I can upload pix to Flickr, I don't care whether I can download them onto the Chromebook (I can download them onto my PC when I get home).

Re: Netbook Advice

My Samsung Chromebook arrived today, and I'm in love with it already. It's tiny and it's fast - everything that I need it to be!
