Sort of Jock You Probably Used to Know

Dave McKenna, the DC-based sportswriter mostly famous for being sued by Dan Snyder, is a personal favorite of mine, collecting stories from the deepest amateur ranks to the pinnacle of sports power --- Dan Snyder, for instance --- and digging into the into the deeper meaning sports have in society. The stories in his column, "The Cheap Seats, criss-cross his obstensibly athletic subject matter through the societal spectrum, allowing engrossing tales of sports to meaningfully reference jazz, politics, Alex Chilton, civil rights, faith, and other important societal touchstones. I love him.

Another mind-blowing Dave McKenna column from 10 years ago.

Really great , I am trying to subscribe to his blog through Google Reader but apparently I can only do it if I subscribe to the whole "Washington City Paper" City Desk section, frustrating.

Great story, again. I don't think I've ever read anything I didn't at least REALLY like from McKenna.
