A NATO helicopter crash in Afghanistan kills 31 US troops, at least 20 of whom were from SEAL Team Six.

G-d rest their souls.

Re: Tragedy in Afghanistan

As I posted before, my son-in-law returned safely from Afghanistan. Twice.
He is an Infantry Company Commander.
I know where he was stationed, and it was a small outpost that is closer to the Pakistan border than where this happened.
But what scared me the most was that he used to fly in helicopters.
Those things are sitting ducks, and when hit, have the glide ratio of a brick.

RIP to those brave men.
Now, can we please get the fuck out of there?
If the entire Russian army couldn't win there, there is no reason 100,000 of our troops can.

A terrible tragedy, in an unwinnable war. It's not just the Russians who got bogged down there.

Kipling opined on the horrors of that place, too:

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
