SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JULY 2011 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for July 2011 is DANIEL MURPHY. This is Daniel's first Player of the Month Award. Murphy led the Mets in July with a .360 batting average. He also had an OBP of .398 and slugged .514. Murphy benefitted from the early departure of Carlos Beltran, who led the Schaefer voting for most of the month. David Wright, seemingly determined to get on the Schaefer scoreboard this year, came on very strong after his return from the disabled list, finishing third despite missing most of the month. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for July is third-time winner R. A. DICKEY, who had previously won in June and July of 2010.. In July this year, Dickey was 2-2 with a 3.79 ERA over 38 innings and six starts. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a first-time winner, JASON ISRINGHAUSEN. Jason took over the "closer" role in July and saved five games. In ten July appearances, he had a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings.

Cool Friday announcement! Pretty funny that, while we were declaring Pelfrey clearly the least trustworthy starter for a big game, he was leading the team in ERA this month.

Dickey card = perfection. That's right in the spirit of the '74 set. Can easily picture that card in there!

It might be because Dickey is cropped enough so that he appears as if he's wearing the same jersey the Mets wore in 1974. But if you stare hard enough, you should discern cool-base underarm vents and a hint of black drop shadow highlighting on Dickey's last name -- which coincidentally, is Dickey. Murphy, by comparison, looks out of place for the '70's what with his silly modern batting practice jersey against a background of drab-colored Citi Field field level seats that are angled to face the infield. But I love the cardwork, just the same.

Marvelous work on Grimm's part, per usual. Thank you for all you put into it. If Izzy rates another POTM, I request a 1969 model in which Topps lazily uses one of the pictures it took of Izzy when he was in his first go-round -- see Al Jackson, Tommie Agee or any number of mail-it-ins from that championship year.
