When he was winning ballgame and waxing eloquent last year, I found myself thinking, "Don't ever let him go on Twitter. Don't limit this beautiful man to 140 characters." Now that he's back to earth, he can go on Friendster for all I care.

Sure she's cute but she looks like every other 14 yr. old girl that my son knows.

I bet she just got her braces off too.

New Times beat guy profiles Doodoo but article lacks detail on his sister.

Duda, Man of Few Words, Confronts Increased Profile
By ANDREW KEH
SAN DIEGO — Lucas Duda can cut an intimidating figure, even among the other large men of major league clubhouses. And yet he often slinks in and out of them unnoticed, never having altered their complexion.

If you have seen Duda — towering frame, intense gaze, heavy bat that he wields like a club — this is an impressive act of stealth. But if you know him and his personality, it makes sense.

“He’s just a big bear,” said Josh Thole, who has known Duda since they played together for the Mets’ Florida State League team in 2008. “We’re all scared of him, because he looks mean. But even when he’s mad, it lasts for three seconds, and he’s back to being the bear again.”

Duda’s playing time with the Mets, and thus his profile in their clubhouse, has increased this season as the team has struggled with injuries. He has responded with a number of big hits, which have sent reporters flocking to his locker. But they often walk away almost sorry for having bothered him.

Duda, 6 feet 4 inches and 254 pounds, is not at all unpleasant, but he is modest, almost to a fault. His speech, quiet and clipped, has the tendency to become overwhelmed with clichés when a notebook or camera pops into his line of vision. And his teammates say Duda is no different behind closed doors.

“The first time I met him, I tried to talk to him a little bit, but he didn’t say anything,” said Nick Evans, who has known Duda since they met at spring training in 2008. “He just didn’t talk.”

Duda does not dispute that he is the silent type. “Even my parents would tell you I’m a quiet guy,” he said. “That’s basically me. I’m kind of boring.”

Manager Terry Collins said Monday that there was no reason Duda could not be an everyday major league player. He also said he wondered whether he should move him away from first base, where he has been playing exclusively since Daniel Murphy was injured Aug. 7, but where Ike Davis would play if he returns healthy next season.

“I’m wrestling with the fact that I’ve got him playing first base, and when do I think that I’ve got to get him back in the outfield,” Collins said before the Mets’ game Monday night against the Padres. “Because I believe our first baseman will be back next year.”

Duda, of course, said he did not have a preference, while praising the talents of Davis.

He insisted that his reserved demeanor was in part a reflection of his desire not to show up his teammates, particularly those who have been in the majors longer than he has.

“They don’t want to see me running around, yelling, screaming,” said Duda, who played 29 games last year and 65 this year before Monday.

Duda’s teammates, though, would probably question whether he is even capable of doing those things.

“He tries to stay out of the way and does a very good job of that,” Jason Bay said. “Even the guys that are friends with him from the minors say he’s quiet.”

Bay said the veterans had often tried to draw him out of his shell, taking him out to dinner when they are on the road.

“There might be six of us, and he’ll say seven words,” Bay said. “On a good night he’ll say 12.”

But Bay also said that he had noticed a change in Duda in recent weeks: more questions, more comments, and maybe even the odd joke.

“A lot of it is just talking or a little bit of joking around,” Bay said. “But even that’s a big step for him.”

Duda, a left-handed hitter, was batting .276 entering Monday. He had just four home runs — before leading off the second inning Monday with a homer — but appeared to be asserting himself more at the plate and among his teammates.

This month, Duda hit a two-run game-tying home run in the ninth inning of a game at Citi Field. When his teammates urged him to the top step to soak in the fans’ adulation, the first words out of his mouth were “no,” “no” and “no” again.

But then he relented and took his curtain call. “It was pretty cool,” Duda said afterward, cracking a smile.

Collins, while continuing to praise Duda’s slow and steady development on the field, said he also noticed a change in how he carried himself in the clubhouse.

“He’s starting to open up a little bit,” Collins said. “And I think that’s because he’s starting to realize he belongs here.”

Duda sounds a lot like me. Except he's about 6 inches taller and hits the ball a couple of feet farther.
